^^ endless walls of text...nobody reads that. A clean summary in two sentences please ;)

i read it all...

to see the new g11 interior go watch bmw i8, vision connectedrive and F15 - but dont expect a big revolution, just an evolution.

outside go watch grand lusso some parts are similar and there is a surprise detail on the exterior that wont fit everyones gusto.

i think this surprise will be again the bootlid, when u look sharp on the g11 spypics and the grand lusso, u can see the acuminate trunklid...

dunno if old but got a vid

Actually I said 1 year from the 7er in late 2015. We will see the 8er Coupe in late 2016 earmarked for the Paris Mondial l'auto.
With the 7er's revolutionary genetics , CFRP trim will also be offered for interior options.

The 7er is described in BMW as a sporting approach to luxury and elegance.
So scott27, how about the x7( which you've said will also use the same construction technology as the G11). When should we expect to see it?

The AutoBild image is the closest render to describe the intricate details of the G11.

I find that render a bit too much for what BMW is going to do. It is the same case than the F01. I remember the Pace Car render, which was similar to the final design but much more sporty than the final design.

When I look at the G11 mules I see a bug and round hoffmeister kink, and less angry proportions than on the AB render. I predict more conservative front lights too.

Sounds like the title of a No.1 hit song! Or Panamera'ish? Nah, can't be...me an EnI nearly ended-up on each others ignore lists about that. The whole BMW Group has Rolls-Royce and the Panny needs some solid competition from sporting rival BMW...oops! Sorry, I nearly got carried away again:D

I like the phrase and thinking in that you said, hope we can built some solid dreams around it.;)

I would like to think that the proposal for the 8er Gran Coupe will be closer to the Panamera in terms of performance based luxury and thoroughbred image.
A Flagship 860i would be something else and although not definite but discussion involves the possibility of BMW Ms involvement in the 8er.

If Wolfgang Durheimer returns to BMW as per rumours in Munich then he could be given the 8er project.
As more apparent reasons for the departure appear in German business papers.

When was Durheimer at BMW before?

Dürheimer began his career in 1984 as a trainee in production/technology with BMW AG in Munich. In 1986, he became head of product management, advertising and sales promotion for motorcycle parts and accessories for BMW Motorrad GmbH, Munich. In 1990, Dürheimer became product line manager for coupe class and special engines for BMW AG. In 1992, he was appointed head of project management and director of research, development and project management, BMW AG Motorcycle Division, Munich. He left BMW to join Porsche AG as head of the 911 model line in 1999.

This 7er has the potential to reverse its image as an inferior car to the S-class (I won't say everybody agrees, but most due). The reason is because it is actually very technologically inferior, it is very clear. It is not like everybody is an S-class fanboy just bashing the 7er for no reason, but it is unfortunately the reality. BMW cannot afford to half-arse this car, they need to have the attitude that they will gain back the market share at any cost. They need to revolutionize the driving characteristics of a full-size luxury sedan and defy the laws of physics while maintaining one of the smoothest rides at the same time. I say this because they have always portrayed the 7 as a sporty alternative, and if that is their goal, they need to pioneer that side just like Mercedes has pioneered the comfort side.

It will take a very high level of dedication, but that should be their ultimate goal, offering a unique, extremely sporty yet extremely comfortable solution to this segment while making significant technological advancements that are unique to the 7er, which don't seem like desperate attempts to capture the attention of buyers.

BMW has proven that they are capable of some very impressive cars. They need to get rid of the attitude that they are producing a bigger 5 series just for the sake of having another car to compete in this segment, and they need to combine all of their talents and produce a 7er that will be one of the biggest successes ever, if conducted and thought about properly.

I won't bet on anything. I'll just wait for the results, and right now I do not expect it to blow the S Class out of the water. Here again BMW has that same issue as with M2/M4 or Porsche 981/991, they can't make the BMW better than the Rolls Royce, or it will be (the Rolls) like a Maserati. BMW is cutting costs to a extreme almost risky extent, I have not noticed that on the S Class. The new 7 Series is to get partly CF chassis, hopefully other things won't get too cheap quality. While the new X5 is yet probably best in class, it has not revolutionised this segment, nor the F3X BTW.

The "problem" is the biggest market for 7er is now China, where the customers prefer COMFORT over sportiness. Although BMW CAN NOT offer too much comfort over sportiness due to sporty brand image, and due to offering top-notch comfort in their Rolls-Royce cars instead (where high level comfort is expected from the brand).

I do not see sportiness as a "problem", it is not that the current 7er is sporty. The real problem is interior.

Actually, I would argue that BMW's problem is the oppisite of that. The F01 was designed to be a 7-Series from the start, while the F10 rides on a modified F01 platform. Technicalities aside, I agree BMW does have to make this car possess the essance of BMW, which is something that the current car is lacking. Really their whole line up is, but that is a rant for another thread.

Correct, but while it could be the other way round - it presents the same exact problem. The strong relation between the 5er and the 7er needs to be eliminated, and they both need to be designed from the ground up independently of each other.

It's not going to happen, it would simply cost too much. BMW is going to compensate with lightweight materials, and I'm sure they've learned a thing or two from this 'F' generation of cars...this was after all the first gen with platform sharing on this level.

I do agree though, developing them independently would be the best.
