Not likely at the moment. That same V10 was with the anniversary M5 and was even tested in the F10 , possibly the great talking point of the E60 was the V10 - it truly was engineering genius and that noise will never leave you. I know someone at M who has a collection of BMW engine noises on their iTunes.
With the engine developed by M as was the strategy for the CS project under Gerhard Richter , had the economic uncertainty not arrived you can only imagine how great this car could have been?

Thats sad to hear. I agree with you 100% on the S85. No offense to the people that worked on the S63, but it is not even half as great of an engine as the V10 was. It gave the E60 such an exotic feel. So much so that it is probably the closest a regular production sedan has ever been to being a supercar (or at least in my opinion).

What would it take to get that person at ///M to release those engine sounds?

Autobild/Larson CGIs' have the tendancy to be a bit "hit and miss".

But it is probably safe to conclude that the 7 series successor will be a very precisely penned automobile. Far more razor-edged and angular than the W222 S-Class.

I do wonder about those recent photographs of that 7 series successor mule. Its' greenhouse looks exceedingly tall. Hopefully, the car is merely a very early "body tacked together" prototype that hardly resembles what we shall see sometime in 2015. I'm a fan of rakish A and C pillars.

Every car which has to fulfil certain packaging requirements must incorporate its requirements for its market , a larger glasshouse means better headroom for passengers. And the 7er is no different.

Should BMW ever get to a 8er Coupe or Gran Coupe which is under deliberation at BMW as we speak then that can get lower and sleeker.

Nope. the generous greenhouse is here to stay. It's what customers like in BMW vehicles since it brings more airiness into the traditionally tight cabin. It's a compensation. Imagine a tight cabin with shallow greenhouse - it would produce a totally claustrophobic effect.

BMW have vehicles traditionally featured a generous greenhouse.

For more intimate feeling there are Coupes & GranCoupes & SACs - with a bit shallower greenhouse (due lower roof line).

Regarding F01/F02 vs G11/G12 - despite all the heavy plastic camo beneath the masking tape the G12 prototype already looks sleeker compared to production version of F02. Now imagine the production version of G12 7er. The evolution of getting sleeker as seen in F02 vs E66 case will continue in G12 vs F02 case as well. Perhaps not in that extent, but the difference will certainly be visible.Even more so in SWB case (G11 vs F01).

AutoBild's CGIs give a nice hint (although some proportions & details are off - eg roof looks taller IRL; some details quiet so) how the general stance of G11 will look like.

Btw, they prototypes in spyshots are G12 (so, LWB versions)!

Huh? I thought I was following what you were saying when you said it would produce a "claustrophobic" effect but then you describe the same thing as "intimate" in the next sentence. Is it claustrophobic or intimate? You lost me there!

Concept CS was not a wapoware. It was announced officially, and then canceled officially.

This vehicle was presented to the public for the first time as a concept study at the Shanghai Motor Show in spring 2007. It is a cutting edge technological vehicle which will round off the BMW product range at the top end.

Is it claustrophobic or intimate? You lost me there!

It's all about perception.

Usually sedan drivers & passengers prefer an airy & bright cabin ... while to dark & tight cabin can have a claustrophobic effect on them. Therefore in sedans, GTs, SAVs etc a roof line is higher, greenhouse is taller, usually upholstery is preferred in lighter colors, generous sunroof / panorama roof is available etc. While "darkness" can be achieved with darker upholstery, tinted windows etc etc

While sports coupe / SAC etc drivers & passengers usually prefer more intimate feeling in the cabin: which a tight & darker cabin allows. Therefore a lower roof line & shallower greenhouse. Darker upholstery is preferred, tinted windows as well etc. Airier feeling can be achieved with upholstery in brighter colors, clear windows, sunroof etc.

Therefore BMW provides an airier & brighter feeling in sedans, progressive sedans, SAVs etc - with higher roof line, more generous green house. And more intimate feeling in sport coupes, gran coupes & SACs - with lower roof line & shallower greenhouse.

Eg. the coupe-like low roof line & shallow greenhouse would have a claustrophobic effect in sedan, and be usually be perceived as such. While in sportier cars the same features create more "intimate environment".

Lots of customer behavior (especially the psychological aspect) stuff is going on here ... It's almost a science of its own within marketing.

There is a lot more decision making underway at BMW for additional luxury models especially since with MINI and the BMW UKL models , BMWi and various other BMW models will help BMW to achieve its c02 and CAFE targets before its competitors .
