I don't see a new generation 7er discussion, all I see is few fanboys pressing each others buttons.

Why I have the feeling is that deep down BMW knows that they can't win this segment and they know that they can't match the S class as a package, thats why they are happy to just only steal a piece of the pie and that is it. I don't know but knowing BMWs capabilitys, they can do a better job than F01 at the times. As some said, the car was right in the middle in any category you ask for, sportyness, space, luxury, technology, whatever. As I remember it only introduced the integral steering thing which have yet to proof anything other than it solved a problem they created themselves (extra long body). A8 was better drive and S class was better ride. So what are you 7er ? A mediocre effort in my book.

I see this in a totally different way. IF BMW can match + better the Panamera = WINNER!!! in my books. I don't want another S-class. S-class must NOT BE the goal for BMW AG. BMW has to compete and better porsche where it matters. The X4 must be better than the Cajun, The X5 must be better than the Cayenne and the 7er must be a Panamera eater, beater, better car! I need a B M W. A unique luxury sedan with sporty credentials and DNA of a DRIVING MACHINE:cool:

BMW Group has Rolls-Royce. Make another "cheaper" RR, I say. Make a....Rolls-Royce "Seraph" using aluminium and CRFP, with a V8 TT and less bespoke than it's siblings on the next 7er chassis, pack it full of medern tech = S-class competitor.

BUT PLEASE!!! Leave the 7er to compete with Porsche NOT the S-class....with utmost respect to the glory of the S-class it's an Old Man's car;)(y)

Don't know where you're coming from here, but BMW sells more 7er cars than MB sells S-class models.
They have stolen the biggest piece of the pie already this generation. Next gen they will continue.
But you're right, objectivity is nowhere to be found in this thread. Including your own post of course :)

so funny... i dont get where the elegant cockpit, dashboard combo of the 7 series, made in 2008, went ugly in our days.
where the went bad, where the car becomes mediocre...

u cant compare a car from 2008 to a car from 2013... so silly...
the f01 outdid the w221, i got customers, guests from all over the world, they are surprised how genius the f01 is.
how comfortable, how agile, how technological advanced...in comparison to the w221.

now there is the w222, with an advantage of 5 years...sure they are better, they have to.
in 2 years... we will see...

and please dont tell me, this is no thread about the s-class its the 7s, in the s-class thread you say its not about the 7s its about
the s-class. these cars are rivals, these cars try to win customers in the same segment, and sure u have to compare them.
so where else compare them?

Man you can not go around and lie on the forum in this blatant fashion.
You have many post, people come around here and read a lot, they might even believe the BS you are posting.
The freaking W221 outsold the F01 IN 2012!!! ITS LAST PRODUCTION YEAR..
Which planet are you on?

And those of you who wish that the 7er will out do the Panamera..good luck is all i can say..
The gap is huge already, hell bmw dont even have anything to match the Turbo,GTS and Turbo S..
I would much rather take up a fight with Mercedes than Porsche..or actually who ever you take up a fight with in this segment out of the stuttgart giants you are bound to loose, unless you do your OUTMOST to outshine them.
And i do not see BMW doing that for a car that is historically not a huge seller for them, nor what their brand/image stands for.

So like Sayyaf said..its in no mans land and i suspect that this is where it will remain even in the next generation.

Is that due to BMW not being capable? Certainly not!
But i just don't think they are willing.. not for the 7er ( this aint their pride and joy the 3er;))

PS
Oh and in case you forgot there is a new panamera coming to;)

Thanks! that is a BMW 7 Series competitor right there. And if ANYONE @ BMW Group in Munich is listening, that's your competitor right there and I am your consumer, LOOK & LISTEN my dear BMW AG, the 7er should be as low, as sleek but better in every respect. Capish!!??o_O

Dear LAartist,
i dont know of which numbers you are talking? worldwide? us? germany? got sources?
just for your info, i can tell you only this, its a nice car - made for the successful father to drive his family around, but not for the chauffeurservices, as i need it.

The Lufthansa used the Panamera for a short while as a luxury-shuttle-service from the vip lounges to the planes and vice versa... they took em out, too hard, to narrow, not much space in the rear.

dont get me wrong im really thinkin of buyin it in germany, costs about 45k € now (used) but i dont think it will be accepted as a chauffeurs car as the 7s and never like the S-Class.

Funny thing, people enter the 7s and ask me which Mercedes this is.

All Limousines (7,S,Panamera,Phaeton,A8, etc.) have their specific customers and buyers. Depends on which type
of owner you are, and what you expect from the cars.
So its understandable why some Model-Makers try to get many buyers from each section.
Like the S does now with its different wheelbases and pretty sure with its different luxury levels.

^ Worldwide 2012 numbers, check the BMW 2012 sales thread, source and everything is given there.

I know that the Panamera is not the same type of car, but some members here wanted the 7er to be sporty like the Panamera..i said it wont happen

Some want it to to be comfy like the S ..wont happen either..

So like i said its caught in between in no mans land..( or call it those specific type of customers who appreciate the sporty/comfy combo their land..which it has to share with the A8 )

There will always be buyers for the 7er..

But people here are suggesting that it will be BEST at something in the class..

I say it WONT be..cause the Panamera has the Sporty side covered and Mercedes the Luxury side..

So it will sit pretty in between.

Will it be and is it all-ready a fantastic car??, of course it is..no one is disputing that;)

FCUK, it took me through 2x threads and a lot of explaining and apologizing to get my view and point through on what you said here. It's such logic, thus as a BMW owner getting older (now 37) by the time the next 7 is launched I would want to buy one and being a BMW drive it myself. Go the Porsche route BMW and to hell with chauffeur drivin 7er, you have Rolls-Royce at your disposal to cover that corner of the market. o_O

If wishes only can come true:(

Oh what the hell, why not just by the next Panny!? Great no, excellent idea! Actually logically brilliant idea...what are forums for. I always wanted a reason to go PORSCHE!!!!

in germany we have some sort of "too much" luxury thinking and awareness... after the bank-crisis we had VPs, CEO, Boardmembers are under a very strange "control-view". These successful guys are in germany the biggest group of buyers of these cars.

they dont care much about the price, it (the car ) shall not be too expensive -coz of the cost-controls, not too luxurious because of the customers of the owners (is he buying this car with my money?), it shall be comfortable but not too much coz at the weekend he wants to drive it a little bit sporty, it shall have a good acceptance and not look too flashy.
noted all this, the 7series fits in perfectly.

^I hope your wishes are heard, but please for your own sake lower your expectations, or you might end up upset.:)

Let me put it another way:

BMW is superior to MB in every single aspect, and there will be no way the next gen 7er will not be better on all accounts (ok, mildly joking here :D)
Now, I am done wih the W222 here. Lets please forget about that car and focus on the next big thing in this class, which will be the 7 SERIES.

Silkeye is a wise person though! Good to have you here man. New blood is always good.

^ Im happy we got something out of this, at least you got educated on the factual sales of the luxury segment:D

Off Topic, but damn I keep forgetting the 6er Gran Coupe! So for now at least F-the Porsche idea. I need to go and test drive a 6 GC, will do it ASAP. Thing is I am afraid and I know myself, I wll want one but don't need one.

Sorry Dutchman, I just had to get it of my mind and it's time for bed now, cheers and goodnight!:)

And I'll leave you with this: BMW does rule, goes without saying. I hate to repeat facts, yet we all need to be reminded once in a while.:sneaky:

If only the F01 was close to the CS, it will certainly have been a home run from my POV.
