I like it. It looks like it is missing a foot of hood between the front axle and the firewall compared to the old one. Finally looks like a well proportioned sports car. I hope the E Performance will not be a 5,000 lb mess.

I am sure underneath all that twirly covering is a stunning sports car that will stir up all the emotions. Its shaping up very nicely. Probably will be just as good or even more prettier than the beautiful new SL.

There'd a stunner hiding underneath that's for sure.

Will this be a 2 + 2?

I'm trying to imagine a 2+2 version of this, with "usable" rear seats, as a "spiritual successor" to the C107 SLC.

very usable rear seats...as the last SLC, those rear seats are perfect for bags, purses and some other things , think about like second trunk space

Well, it's based on the same platform as the new SL - which already weighs 1970kg (4300lb) without a hybrid system. So I wouldn't be too hopeful.

At last some different wheels, new and attractively sporty, they left the laziness and began to create something good

One could and can sit relatively comfortably in the C107 SLCs' rear pasenger area:

I can say it is about zero chance there will be useful rear seats on this one. The roofline simply looks to rule any possibility out. At best this will be a nice shelf for some bags if needed. The SLC, if I remember correctly, was not just a hardtop version of the open car. It had a bit of extra wheelbase compared to the convertible (though I may be wrong).

As long as it's as usable as a 911, I think it will increase the cars appeal. Strictly 2 seaters are just not a viable solution for most people.

Comfortably accomodating rear passengers will not be possible, surely. But as the R232 SL is not a small car (a tick over 4700mm L and nearly 1920mm W), I would hope that a solution similar to that of the 992 Carreras (@Mr. Mercedes post) may be "do-able". Provided, of course, that the AMG GT shares those dimensions with the R232.

You're absolutely correct.

A peculiar looking car. An AMG GT meets a 911.

I am curious whether it will basically be a line of hard-core version of the SL. How will Mercedes price it because the SL pricing it wack.

The SL43 does 0-62mph in 4.9sec versus 3.9sec for the A45 AMG with the same engine at half the price. :( Or, instead of buying a 4 cylinder SL you can have a 992 GTS/Targa or an Aston Martin V8(Mercedes powered) for the same money.

If the AMG get will be positioned above the SL then it will be even more expensive - potentiellt heavier too if most variants are e-Performance.
