I actually preferred my E30 318 iS over its' predecessor, an E30 320i. That 16V, 1.8L, 136PS il4 was sweeet.
Here at my dealer, ive been told the W206 the base price will be around 2200 euro more than the former W205 with the around same engine powerI am really curious how much will the price bump gets with W206....
Totally agree....but with just 1 thing...that "no wood/aluminium panel" will force, or at least it will look ugly at basics C class cars....without seat adjusment, heat/cool seat...it will be just a big piano black panel with door handle..i dont know in other countries but here in east EU will start by default with seat heating, and for an 720 euro option, the front seat adjustment ...i think this is a givenThe W206 interior definitely looks more expensive compared to the W205, even though the steps taken in the redesign are evolutionary.
The attention to detail looks really good. I did not think I would like it as much from the "bare- bones" spy shots some were complaining about. (another reason not to judge before a car breaks cover!)
The door panels also look good IMO. I personally do not care about wood panels in the doors.
In the case of the C, this is a minimalists design approach. Minimalism is the new design theme.

W126 length 4.995 meter vs W206 4.751.Let's also remember this new C is just around as big as an S class of that time.
I have ample experience with the G20 330i, and while not lacking anything, it definitely is no inline 6. Which I vastly prefer. Quite frankly, a 4 pot doesn't belong in a luxury car at all.

I can understand putting a 4 cylinder in a compact sedan like a C Klasse.
Comparatively compact, within the line up (C/E/S/ or 3/5/7). Objectively speaking, the C and 3er aren't compact indeed, far from it. The W201/190 was a compact sedan: lxbxh 4.42 x 1.678 (!) x 1.361.Thing is, there is absolutely nothing compact about cars in this class. The G20 3er is absolutely massive, and the new W206 will be just as big. Big cars. Not to mention heavy.
Agree but the question is....is this just the beginning ? Is Mercedes somehow telling us whats the future of their non-electri line-up? The next E class also will have only 4 cylinder? In defense of smaller displacement 4 cylinder engines:
The progress of research and development in the fields and metallurgy, ceramics , lubricants and electronic mapping have made the application of smaller 4 cylinders in larger, premium automobiles far more viable. Of course, the charm of a formidable il 6 or V8 is not to be diminished. Yet still, I can undestand the "wisdom" of offering cars such as the C-Class in "4 cylinder only" specification. This holds especially true on the threshold of a new era in which BEVs will eventually dominate.

Whats your opinion ?

And they didn't weigh as much.Agreed and let’s remember that the first compact 4 door saloon (W201 aka 190) initially had 4 cylinder engines only. Only later on (1985) the 190 2.6 was introduced. I for one wouldn’t have minded a 190E 2.3-16...
This is exactly what I was about to say, W222 started from 400K SAR (Saudi Riyals) which is around 106K $, the W223 starts at 600k SAR which is around 160K $.what do you mean an 50k $ in price increase? in EU we got around 6k euro increased...the W222 started from 97k euro, and now the W223 is starting from 103k euro
50k$ increase is too massive....or maybe i didnt understood what you wanted to say
Price gouging? Early car markups? This is exactly what I was about to say, W222 started from 400K SAR (Saudi Riyals) which is around 106K $, the W223 starts at 600k SAR which is around 160K $.
One information that I forgot to mention, is that some in price increase is due to the new 15% tax increase, so its around 45k $ increase over W222 to be precise.
I'm still not sure is it due to Saudi getting high features as standard ? this could be one of the tricks that our ''Greedy'' dealer is doing.
Possibly, but it seems it is the official dealer price.Price gouging? Early car markups?
