C5 [Spy Shots] 2021 Citroën C5 III

The Citroën C5 is a large family car produced by the French manufacturer Citroën between 2000 and 2018 in France, and between 2008 and 2022 in China, over two generations. It replaced the Citroën Xantia, in the large family car class, and is the first modern Citroën with "Cx" naming nomenclature, previously used by its ancestors, the C4 and C6 from 1930. A crossover, unrelated to the previous generations, was released in 2021, with crossover styling and marketed as the Citroën C5 X.

Very interesting. And certainly not at all "boring".

Citröen is a brand that has a history of presenting landmark automobiles. The 7/11/15 Traction Avants, the 2CV, the ID19, the SM, the CX...Cars that add some spice to the automobildom stew.

And one of the very few "far ahead of its' time" automobile...

Indeed: hydro-pneumatic suspension (maintained a level attitude even with several punctured tires - helped President de Gaulle escape gunfire attack), power steering, power gearbox, power brakes with front disk brakes, aluminum hood, fiberglass roof, swivel headlights, frameless doors, grille-less aero front fascia, single spoke steering wheel...

So, Citroen is clearly following their own design route. Gone is the typical 3-box sedan of the previous generations, which frankly never looked good. I'm glad to see Citroen's designs thrive, but I can't see myself with one.

Seeing the mass of current cars, the Citroen and the Peugeot are one of the few that refreshes me when I see them, all an example that things can and should be done differently, in addition that success accompanies them since I see them everywhere

Looks like another French turd.

Can't see this selling well at all with the 508 on the market as well.

Having the 508 in the family, it is a bit understandable since they cover both possibilities.

Equally a shame because C5 had a maturity as a very beautiful, striking and relevant product for several generations, since the BX as it was called it was a wonder of the new era of Citroen, and it helped to reposition the brand, at least they have that new larger sedan that they presented recently in DS version I think.
In a new BX, in "drag races", we made sweat more than one 320i E30. :giggle:

The roof drop in the rear section in that camouflaged photo is not so different from that idea ......

Mainstream manufacturers are screwed now on the traditional D-sedan segment, even with classy, elegant and roomy sedans (e.g. Renault Talisman). The only way to remain viable on this segment is to: either turn semi-premium, which VW has succeeded remarkably at with the Passat, Volvo still struggles at with the S60, and Peugeot is pretty successful at with the 508; or offer exceptional value for money while retaining a decent quality image, which Škoda is brillant at thanks to VAG's colossal ressources; or go the crossover way and turn the classic sedan into something different, which Citroën is pretty much forced to doing since the DS9 will be the group's premium sedan, closely followed by the sporty semi-premium Peugeot 508, leaving the Citroën C5 the role of the simple, practical, relaxed, un-pretentious family sedan with the added zest of quirkiness that is dear to the brand.

Interesting example you bring. In my family, my uncle had the BX in the early 90s and my father the 405. Just the other day my father was saying how the 405 felt so much more refined on every area compared to the BX of my uncle.

It was way better looking too IMO.

Right, maybe not better looking, but the rest I thought the opposite, the 405 was very nice without a doubt, but the BX seemed more special to me, it stood out in my eyes in all aspects (even being new I remember it quite refined and comfortable with the air suspension that I think it had), I did not have a lot of experience with the 405 for comparison ....
