2 Series [Spy Shots] 2015 BMW 2 Series Spy Pics & Info

The BMW 2 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since the year 2014. The 2 Series was created when BMW spun-off the 2-door models (coupé and convertible) of the BMW 1 Series into a separate series.
What about this one? ;)

Why do all the 2er renders have Active Tourer Concept front ends? Surely it's going to look more similar to the F20/F21?

Looks sick! Do want!!!

Lets hope not, heh
Btw, they (those artists) always put the front of the latest BMW on all future models...it's nothing new..
Yes first it was CSitis , then VEDitis , Connecteddriveitis , F30itis and now we have ActiveTouritis.

BAD NEWS!

From CAR, April 2013 issue :

BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer personally sealed the fate of the on-off BMW Z2 roadster , BY DECIDING TO LOCK THE NEXT GEN 2-SERIES RANGE ONTO THE NEW FWD/AWD MATRIX, along with all future 1-series models.

This means the 2-series is FWD.

LOL, April fool so late?

Who wants a FWD M2? What is BMW's Cayman rival then? I don't believe. That is BS.

The next generation modular chassis system that begins with the G series is designed to be accommodated from the 2er upwards , the investment is already made and the matrix has already been developed. The next 1er and sub 1er models are incorporated into the UKL programme. As mentioned before Z2 becomes Z1 , Z2 becomes Z3 and so on. I have not heard anything about the 2er being locked in to UKL as far as I believe there is the strong desire to keep 2er RWD because of the advantage it has especially with cars like the CLA and Audi A3 Sedan as when the Gran Coupe variant of the 2er is launched , BMW hope that it makes an impact in that segment.

A spin off 1er Sedan is planned but on the UKL matrix. This model is a derivative off the upcoming BMW sub 1er City Compact hatch , the BMW response to the Audi A1 and twin to the next MINI. MINI will also inherit a sedan for growth potential in key markets.
The replacements for the MINI Roadster and Coupe are locked in due to success of the current car which has sold well especially for a low volume model. But BMW see the need for the car to be more adventurous in looks than just another MINI variant . So it will receive its own unique body work as each MINI model stays with the bloodline and design DNA but radically interpreted for each new model.

I have a question. Wouldn't using the same basic chassis on the 2,3,4,5,6, and 7 produce some problems? Namely either a 7-Series thats too hard or a 2-Series thats too soft and grossly overweight? You get what I'm saying? Because I think thats part of the problem with the F10 is that its closely related to the F01 chassis.

i just want to ask, will the 2er GC share the same roofline as the 2er coupe itself? The 2er, like the "current" 1series coupe, has much more of a boxy/upright roofline profile than others but for the GC to have a roofline that is anywhere as low/steeply raked as the blue car render, it means the 2er GC will have a vastly different roofline to the coupe? And if anything should be traded off, i hope BMW can forgo a lot of rear headroom in favor of a better exterior look, this car should be more stylish than practical..you go for the hatch or 1er GT compactive tourer for practicality.

btw those headlights are OK, looks pretty good but they suit the compact tourer thing more, hope the real ones on the 2er are sharper. but hey even this is a lot better than the F20 by far.

Mind that 2er roof line is less "sedanish" and more "coupeish" than the roofline of E82 1er Coupe. 1er Coupe's roof line is actually flatter on the top than the one on 2er Coupe is (which is in fact - compared to 1er Coupe - more bulbous). Not to mention the rear window is much steeper on 2er Coupe than on 1er Coupe - giving 2er a much more coupe-like stance. Also the rear is a bit higher & not as flat as on 1er Coupe. So the overall stance & silhouette of 2er Coupe is definitely more coupe-like that the one of current 1er Coupe. Rakish nose on 2er also adds to the sportier coupe appearance as well.

Apply that "bulbousness" & steep rear window & less flat rear & rakish nose to the stretched roof line of a 2er GC (it will feature longer wheelbase than coupe), and you get a typical Gran Coupe appearance. Different than sedan. Even compared to 3er Sedan the difference is more than evident! Compare 6er GC to 7er, and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Don't worry. The 2er Coupe isn't looking as much "sedanish" as 1er Coupe does. And consequently 2er GC doesn't either.

tbh i think the boxy or sedan non-soap shape of the 1er coupe was pretty nice, shows that a coupe doesn't need to look like a soap as some other member said, but the GC, you know, is supposed to be much sleeker and lower.

That was the cool part of the 1er coupe actually.
Going from E87 to F20 they completely messed up design wise. Really hope that won't be the case for the 2er. But going by the looks of the F32, I am not exactly worried...

yea but going by the looks of the F20 which the 2er is more closely related to, is quite worrying.

2er is not "weird"-looking ... The roof line is different than on F20 1er hatch, the greenhouse is different, the rear is different, the front is different.

The only directly "copied" element from 1er is the "pronounced hip" - the "swollen" rear wheel arch and the lower character line that runs above the rocker panel from the rear wheel arch towards front wheels. But IMHO it looks better on 2er due to car's "sedanish" "3-box" design layout - compared to hatch rear end on 5er / 3er 1er.

And the interior is of 1er, of course. ;)

This gives you a good guideline of how Rounder the Coupe looks, from an initial drive on the M235i

It's a little beast.
