At most we will see something like 640 - 650 horses on the S65. At this point, I believe it will be a reworked current engine, which is capable of up to 720 horses (per Black Series SL development chatter).

FYI,MB just releases a S65 Grand edition to the Chinese market,on their website it says the car gets 630hp and torque remains unchanged..with that said I don't know whether it's a typo or not..maybe wolf can confirm this.

AMG just announced the new S 65 AMG with these specs. Looks like 200 Nm more torque than the Grand Edition.

The S 65 AMG is to be presented at the same time in November at the auto shows in Tokyo and Los Angeles, making 463 kW/630 hp and a maximum torque of 1200 Newton meters.

Is there any credibility to these sources? Usually, AMG CEOs are coy with even common-sense facts that there will be an S65. How could he has gone as far as to introduce higher specs for a model that would compete with the model he just launched? Devil's advocate here... loving the 1200NM, which is the long-known true capacity of the V12. This means they have now a strong-enough transmission to handle all that. Good luck to the rear tires.

So far 4MATIC is only an unconfirmed rumor. The RWD version should have MBC standard, though.

Agreed, that torque figure appears doubtful. Some rumors copied below indicate an MCT?


The peeps from Mercedes-Benz Passion insist they know that the new AMG sedan will offer 630 hp and an electronically limited torque of 1000 Nm (737 lb/ft). Other bits of info from the same source state that the S65 will finally switch to the MCT 7 G-tronic transmission, which has proved on the G65 AMG model that it can now handle (part of) the Earth-moving torque figure.

We say “part of”, because, as some of you AMG aficionados already know, the six-liter twin-turbo V12 by AMG actually develops 1200 Nm (885 lb/ft) and has been electronically restricted for the reason of being too insane for a rear-wheel drive car. The 4-Matic all-wheel drive system hasn't been confirmed for the 65 AMG, but it would prove to be a really nice surprise. We will have to wait until a January 2014 unveil to see the real thing.

PS. AMG may also be thinking about a GL65 AMG. Is the GL-Class ready for a V12 BiTurbo?

The GL would fit the V12 BiTurbo like a velvet glove; it would seem like the perfect fit - more so than the G and the 65, in my opinion.

Back to the S Class, the 4Matic rumors are iffy at this point. It would seem that MBC would be a better fit for the S 65 comfort and character-wise, and as far as we can tell, MBC and 4Matic will remain incompatible, at least for a while (despite wishful thinking on the part of every Mercedes and traction fan out there). I am disappointed to read from the first test reviews of the S 63 that the 4Matic feels significantly floaty when compared to the RWD model with MBC. Although 4-wheel traction is a God-send, the removal of the near-miraculous ABC/MBC suspension appears too dear a price to pay.

As we were mentioning yesterday, the Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG has recently had it press launch in Austria. During the event, both ex and current CEOs of Mercedes-Benz AMG were present and were kind enough to answer quite a few of non-politically correct questions from the journalists who were invited to he media drive.

The guys from MB Passion were also there, and among a number of other scoops they also got Ola Kallenius to spill the beans on the launch of the S 65 AMG behemoth, which was recently spotted completely uncovered while filming in the Netherlands.

According to Kallenius, quoted by the German Mercedes-Benz blog, the upcoming twin-turbocharged V12 AMG is going to be launched simultaneously at the Tokyo Motor show and the LA Auto Show, since both events will take place at the same time, between November 22 until December 1st.

Apparently, he also confirmed that the model will feature a 630 hp version of the M275 V12 in the old S 65, only this time it will be fitted to a reinforced seven-speed automatic instead of the old 5 G-Tronic, while the torque might not be limited to 1000 Nm (738 lb ft) anymore, but the full 1200 Nm (885 lb ft) that the engine was capable in the first place.

My god that S65 looks good. This S-Class is the prettiest yet IMO. Only the W220 and W126 are even remotely close when it comes to being pretty. W140 and W221 were more handsome or just good looking, but this S looks Italian almost from some angles.

Is it the same 6.0 TT V12 of the W221 S65, which in turn was the same engine that powered the W220 S65 and it does not meet the Euro VI standards that will come into force in September 2014?

The M 275 got a further development to the M 279 to meet current legal requirements for the exhaust gas values. This enhancement is in use since 2012.

Love the chrome mesh in front spoiler. Looks very rich and adds a distinctive feel to the S65 as a higher model.
The 7-Speed should do wonders for it. I still believe 4-Matic should have been added, at least as an option.

^ I tend to agree, especially about the inferior ride/feel some people are expressing the 4matic has vs. MBC. But, the S65 now needs some meatier rubber, like 295-section rears (same setup as the S-coupe concept).

And please, upgrade the damm V12, it simply canhave the same power than 10 years ago.
