Here we have the first pictures of the next-generation Ferrari California caught testing in Italy. This early stage prototype has some changes in the front bumper, also new headlights similar to the 458 Italia and long temporary exhaust pipes.
Ferrari launched the California in 2008 and earlier this year announced an upgrade, which included weight loss and engine tuning.
The current model is powered by a 483bhp 4.3.litre V8, enabling it to hit 62mph in 3.8 seconds, while the top speed is 193mph. It is the first front engined Ferrari with a V8.
Fully disguised prototypes with final bodywork are expected to start testing in early 2013. Stay tuned for more pictures and details!

Looking at how Porsche stepped up their game with the new boxster, I expect no less from Ferrari.

^ what has the Boxter to do with the California? The California is on a completely different level.

In terms of performance and price, yes.

In a sense, I think of both of them as variants of entry into these prestigious brands. Im pretty sure, that Ferrari intentionally down played the California in the looks department (the very same way that Porsche did with the first gen boxster), however, with the 2nd gen Boxster, Porsche have gone all out and I expect (or atleast hope) that Ferrari will do the same with the new California.

Next Generation Ferrari California available as Coupé!

Rumors arrived today of a possible coupé version of the Ferrari California. Though no details are known, whether the California will get the new TC 3.8l V8 of the new Maserati Quattroporte or a detuned version of the NA 4.5l V8 from the 458, as it was already the case with the current California that got the NA 4.3l V8 from the F430, nor whether the coupé version will be exactly as the coupé-convertible or have different styling, there is a high chance for such a model. According to Ferrari, 70% of California owners are new the the brand. Ferrari does not want to build any "affordable" F-car, but it would like the expand its range to meet even more new customers. The coupé version would due to the lack of the opening roof, loose some 200 kg, what would make it a 1400 kg heavy sports car. It is said to be a two seater only. Price could start at € 160.000*. A V6 version of the California has yet to be confirmed, but chances are rather low.

Yes I hope it will look good. Another car I am really looking forward to (not that I can buy it LOL). But you guys already know I'm a sucker for mid-front engine, transaxle gearbox, two seats, lightweight coupé sports cars, which unfortunately are out of reach (Lexus LFA) or there is just very little choice.
