Sport Auto - Nordschleife laptimes

So you don't see anything strange about it being 2s faster than a 918 and 12s faster than a 488?

Well the jury is out, we'll see how well it does elsewhere.

If this had been Nissan or Lamborghini, I know what people would say.

It is the jury that tested it. This is not a "claimed" laptime by AMG or Mercedes. The magazine took the car around the ring and published the laptime! I dont think a magazine like Auto Motor would give AMG or any manufacturer any form unfair advantage.

Sport Auto testing a German car is hardly an impartial jury. Those tyres aren't even squealing on the corners.

I'm going to see if it beats the likes of the 488 in other magazines on other tracks before accepting this lap as fact.

It doesn't say much for Porsche if a riced up AMG GT just beat their flag-ship hypercar.

Well I'm sure the RWS on the GT R is far more advanced than on the old Skyline.
It's not that helpful period. The minor improvement is cancelled by the added weight and added unpredictability.

Because there were GT-cars as well... as you can see it in the video, where it passes Gebhart.

Seriously, the nation of internet is going crazy and suspicous ON EVERYTHING these days...
It has every right to. Either there's something wrong here or Sport Auto times bring erratic to a whole new level.

577hp + 1,630kg does not equal 7:10 on road tyres. And it doesn't even appear to have much downforce.

As far as I know the driver with 918 is done with HvS, a different driver. And drivers matters.

Anyway, we'll see. If it turns out to be 1-2s slower than a 488 in other tests, we'll know that a fast one has been pulled here.

"Only"??? :D
Well it isn't that much considering 488s claim 200+kg at 200kph. And what of GT3 RSs? Massive downforce, far lighter, huge tyres and not as fast. Ditto for Viper ACR.

Something is not quite right about this. Since when were Merc road cars even fast on track?

The GTS only made 1:09.6 on HHS, almost 3s down on the 488, now the GTR is 1.5-2s/minute faster. How exactly? It's difficult to imagine a little engine tweaking, aero and chassis subtracted 5s/minute, anymore than it did between MkIV and MkV ACR. That only leaves the tyres.

You are still not providing any technical reason to back up your claim. Added unpredictability to what exactly?

Had AMG released a video with one of their test engineers internet would reacted claiming its rigged. This is exactly why they given the keys to a trusted magazine to push the car to it its limits around the ring. What more proof do you need?

Since Tobias Moers became the CEO of AMG, to be precise.

From SportAuto ( youtube video comments section):

Again: No slicks or cutted slick-tyres were used for the lap time. AMG will offer two different versions of the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 for the AMG GT R. A normal one, like it is available for the GT S, and a special one for track driving with a more sticky compound. BUT: Both versions of Cup 2 for the AMG GT R are fully street legal! You can compare the sticky Cup 2 for AMG GT R with the Cup 2 for the Corvette Z06. The grip level feels pretty similar!

Well that's interesting. More and more we see that no two Cup 2s are alike. So much for people who definitively say they aren't as sticky a Trofeos. They may well be in certain cases, or even stickier.

I will wait and see what the AMG GT R does around other tracks as I did with the Aventador SV (Still waiting on Trofeo R tests). Then I will judge the car`s capabilities.

So apparently the slicks at 0:23 are not slicks. From video comments.

Sorry, that`s not correct!. Beside the car you can see the Michelin Pilot Cup 2 for the AMG GT R. Please do not forget: That was a serious press test, not a factory test by AMG. We, sport auto, would never do a laptime on a production car with slick tyres!
