XC90 [SPIED] Volvo XC90 Successor

The Volvo XC90 is a mid-size luxury SUV manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars since 2002. The first generation was introduced at the 2002 North American International Auto Show and used the Volvo P2 platform shared with the first generation Volvo S80 and other large Volvo cars. It was manufactured at Volvo's Torslandaverken in Sweden. Volvo moved production equipment of the first generation to China and ended Swedish production at the end of 2014, renaming the car as the Volvo XC Classic (or Volvo XC90 Classic). In late 2022, the electric-only EX90 was introduced as the successor of the XC90. However, in September 2024, Volvo launched the second facelift of XC90, and stated that both models would be sold together.

^no its fwd like all volvos, while there will be Awd models, and in the hybrids the engine drives the front wheels, while the electric motor drives the rear wheels.

there has been no Rwd volvo since the 7 and 9 hundred series.

This is Volvo, they haven't built a RWD car since the 960, don't expect them to do one today. Besides FWD is a lot better in winter conditions and better suits Volvo's safety mantra.

LaArtist have you seen the cars or are you guessing?

^seen the xc and the S ..not the wagon..

And i don't guess im not scott..

im volvo scott

In your opinion do you think Volvo is making a mistake going 4 cylinder only?

^ time will tell, as their 4 cylinder cars will be potent enough to do the job.. and in some cases more than that.
But the way they will price some of the upper models you will be able to nearly afford a premium german car with a six cylinder engine.

That might be a problem.
Or maybe it won't cause most ppl don't even know whats under the hood, and low consumption is more important to people today than performance or nr of cylinders.
Especially volvo buyers..

like i said time will tell

I am a former V70 owner, I loved that car, my wife wants a new car, I really think I might put off her new car until the V90 arrives, if its anything like the estate concept I'm sold. Living in Norway the 4 cylinder engine isn't an issue, but I could see it being a big problem in the US and Russia.

Don't know if you know these shots. Provide some hints about the D-Pillar and the central console.
From car scoop, I guess.

yay! but i also find it abit to bare.. other combos might do the trick.

So yeah some more info.. the new sedan and wagon will be named S90 and V90 instead of S80 and V70.

The concept of the wagon is very near the reality, even more so than the XC concept.

And both of those cars like the XC is off the new modular platform SPA.

I kinda have a soft spot for Volvo's as I was really surprised about how well they were rated when tested in South Africa, the second generation S40 (from 2004) was very popular as well as the previous S60 and then not to forget the 850 T5 wagon/saloon. I like the new Volvo look, front lights and grill on this concept look great, there interior design has improved hugely with this new XC90, I like the look of the leather and wood/metal as well as the touch screen for all the controls can be good, although I want to make a final judgement once I can sit inside the car and feel the quality of everything, but the seats in the front look like they will be very comfortable. If I was given the choice between XC90 and Audi Q7, then for sure I would choose the Volvo as I am bored with Audi design, it is so depressing lately and for me the worst German premier brand design at the moment.

Eeeeek after the show cars showed so much promise this rather bland somewhat American styled interior show's up, sorry but this isn't what I was expecting, and no floating centre consul, that's a Volvo signature, it should satill be there. What I do like is the reduced button count, the German's (especially Porsche) have gone nuts with buttons, it's over kill.

I do hope the S90/V90 has some of the glamour of the Volvo Estate concept.

I would agree the center console, especially airvent design with center screen looks alot like some other American cars that have come out, the airvents on the showcar were so much more stylish, they should have brought this out on the production car, it would have looked more classy. The floating effect console of the showcar also should have been kept on the production car as it is the trademark of all Volvo cars since the 2004 S40.

Not a fan of the layout but Interior and Interior quality seem to be top notch. Based from the pictures, the germans need to watch out. Let's hope next generation V60 get the same attention.

I say that I am impressed with this interior. I was very disappointed with the new S60 and quite unimpressed with the V50. This ones seems very fresh and with great materials. Big thumbs up!

The quality of the fit and finish seems to be approaching RR level which is a very good sign and should give it a fighting chance against it's main rivals from Germany but I agree with KiwiRob the sparkle is lost between concept and production so for me it's a great interior it's not quite as great as it could have been which is a shame. Would I consider one? well there where two aspects I always loved about the last one which were the ride and it's seats, if the new one retains these along with injecting a bit of sportiness into it's chassis when this will right up there come the time to replace the RR Sport.
