Years ago, i was still a kid, maybe 8-9 yrs old. My older cousin went out with the bike, a car made an illigeal U turn, and smashed into my cousin. He went flying, broke his nose, arm, and tooth.
That was the last. It's a family ban now,
Well you have to be far more aware when motorcycling simply because no matter how careful you are, it can always be someone else's screw-up and you will lose.
I was stopped in traffic for the car ahead of me and this inbred of an 18 year old with a 17 day old driver's licence who was yapping on his cell phone smashed info me, ramming me into the car in front. I went to the hospital for 13 days with a fully fractured lower leg and my BMW motorcycle was written off.
That happened just over 7 months ago and I was on crutches for just over the first 4 months. I did hobble along sooner and would tire quickly, but I always had the crutches handy. What helped the most was my search for my first Porsche, a Carrera 993. It got me on my feet and walking about as best as I could at the time while going to see various 911s and inspecting them.
Life is short. I watched the Bucket List twice and bought the car I always wanted.
BTW, you can be in your car and get killed. You are no match for an 18 wheeler, no matter what car you are in. So you might as well really live instead of worrying what might happen. Did the motorcycle accident phase me? Not at all. I'm shipping a replacement over to Europe for my 16th summer of riding where roads can't be beat.
