After all this time it’s so funny to still be reading all this bullshit about Rolls Royce and “presence” to put over this uglier than shit car. If you’ve got to do this much explaining then you’ve lost the plot. Now the S-Class is dull because it’s prettier? I’ve read it all.

Cars have faces, I don't understand why companies keep making their cars look like ugly insects with multiple eyes. There isn't a single split headlight solution that isn't terrible, it's a solution to a non problem.

Ha I knew it. The facelift will be more like the LCI of the iX. A subtle re-profile and change of light graphics. Updates in the interior will be the entire focus here.

Cars have faces

Do you see a face when you look at the E30?

Peak pareidolia perhaps.

Now the S-Class is dull because it’s prettier?

No, it's dull because it's dull.

I know you'll never change your mind on this, but to say something 'has presence' is perfectly valid as a descriptor in the English language. It's no different to saying something looks 'sinister', or 'imposing', or even that something looks 'expensive', or 'cheap'. They're words that describe attributes or characteristics we perceive when we look at something. If you can't get past either 'pretty' or 'shit' that's fine, but other people may have a wider vocabulary, and that shouldn't annoy you as much as it seems to.

Presence is BS and doublespeak for ugly. A rino or elephant are imposing and have presence but they’re anything but petty. You can keep writing longer and longer posts that say nothing because no where in any of that drivel are you able to say it’s a good looking car. Trying to make it about me doesn’t change anything that I said. Try again. Beautiful or good looking cars don’t need an explanation or descriptor or in your case an excuse.

Face or not, I don't think you can really argue that the G60 and G70 look anywhere near as good as the E30 did.

No, it's dull because it's dull.
Why is it dull?

What is imposing about the G70 other than it's sheer size? It definitely has an imposing shape. But the front end graphics? Not really.

I love the shape of the G70. I just don't think it's overall cohesively designed. But that's just me.

I don't think the front end treatment makes the G70 imposing, rather it's sheer bulk.. the height, width, and length on the road.

You can give the G70 a sleek and stylish front end and it will still be imposing due to how big the car is IMO. No need for the ugly split headlights that BMW keeps insisting on for some reason.

Both 'beautiful' and 'good looking' are descriptors... I don't think your position on this is particularly well thought out.

I don't think you can really argue that the G60 and G70 look anywhere near as good as the E30 did

k, I didn't argue that... but I take it you agree that a car doesn't need to be anthropomorphised as a two eyed face to look good?

What is imposing about the G70 other than it's sheer size?

I didn't say the G70 looks imposing. It's an example of a word, or words, that convey your perception of the car, in the same way 'has presence', 'is sinister', 'is cheap looking' or 'is expensive looking' do.

Why is it dull?

If you mean 'why do I find it dull', it's because I find it plain and predictable, it doesn't particularly catch the eye*. Feel free to explain why you think it looks good, but consider that I may just respond with Merc1's logic, that if you have to explain it, it's bad.... and you're also not allowed to use any descriptors, because... excuses... or something.

*For what it's worth, this is why I'm not on the 'Neue Klasse all the things train'. In my opinion the more you reuse the same design language, the quicker it gets stale, the less interesting it becomes, and the harder it is to evolve. It's fine to look back on it, but it's a bit boring to live through.
