Rumor: BMW's Sustainable Sports Car Concept coming to Frankfurt '09

Damn. The trick AWD system must really elevate the handling/performance of the X6 by some margin over an M car?

Not really in terms of handling, but in terms of practicality by a margin.
It is all about compromise: practicality for handling.I was just trying to point out the rationale behind an X6.

Now if I had waited until September, I certainly would have gotten an X6-M.

I didn't know if DPC in tandem with X drive gave you a decent handling advantage that better enables you to exploit the cars full performance potential. Couldn't imagine taking an X6 over an M3, but I'm glad you found a compromise that works for you without really giving up anything you really wanted. :t-cheers:

"Fast as an M3, Frugal as Prius"

We know that many of you are dying to learn about BMW's Vision EfficientDynamics sports car concept that's due to make its first public outing in Frankfurt so let's just say that here's the inside scoop. In a nutshell, it's a futuristic-looking, diesel-electric plug-in hybrid sports car with 2+2 seating, and no, it has nothing to do with the four-door coupe car seen in this set of spy shots that circulated around the net.

Power comes from a high-performance hybrid drivetrain that combines a small displacement three-cylinder diesel engine with two electric motors.

We were told that the total output of the diesel engine and the electric motors will be somewhere around 350 horsepower and that thanks to the lightweight construction and various high-tech features, the Vision EfficientDynamics concept will be as fast as BMW's own M3 sports car but at the same time, as fuel efficient and 'green' as a Toyota Prius hybird.

Another significant detail is that the prototype model can run on either the diesel engine, the electric motors or a combination of the two and from what we learned, the vehicle's battery pack can be partially charged through regenerative braking or fully charged from any standard outlet.

There's more to come this weekend so stay tuned on Carscoop but in the meantime, check out the official teaser on BMW's concept car below.

It looks like they got the press release also.

All I have to say is that you will be pleasantly surprised. Some cool new things and impressive power.

Embargo expires tomorrow. We'll let you know as soon as we're in the clear

So you've seen the car? Awesome. I'm excited. I guess this is the car to preview the new entry level Z series? If a) I can't fit in the Broadspeed or b) they stop making them by '13/'14 then this will be a nice looking possibility if I go the two-door/bachelor car route.

X5 X6 are nice cars to go on ski holliday but that s about it. I would not drive such car day by day. It feels like ride fat women which you need to role in flower to find the wet spots.

Not compared to eachother! But as a standalone product. The expectations for BMW SAV M were higher, and thus they rated the car lower...
Just wait until we have a proper test of Cayenne Turbo S , X6 M and ML 63 and see what they say...

Your absolute blind refusal to accept anything negative about BMW never ceases to amaze me.

^^^One could start thinking that judging by these last 30 or so posts :(

There is nothing negative about the X6 M Mr Negative. You always quoting me and saying how stupid I am never ceases to amaze ME!

It's good to know I am such a factor for you though.

seriously, the rate things are going here, I'm all for just posting pictures and info and canceling replies. We already know how most 99% of the members think, we all can predict how they'll respond, they came to this forum being a fan of a brand, that won't change and neither will these discussions.

Oh, and the first one who says " it's a forum, get used to it, people have different opinions and should be able to tell them " go **** yourself. The only thing that's new here lately are the pictures, all the other stuff is just repeated, repeated and repeated by brainless fanboys over and over to be held as the only general truth. Go work for Fox News and leave the 10% of us that actually would like to have a nice objective discussion alone.

You do realise that if somebody doesn't think that a particular BMW is "amazing" it doesn't necessarily mean they are being "negative"?

For me, I love BMW. They are my favourite manufacturer and I will most likely own a BMW at some point in my life for the next 40 years. But I recognise that they do make mistakes and not everything they choose to produce fits my idea of what a BMW should be. But when I praise a BMW, then it means something. When you praise a BMW, it's just like every single other post you make and therefore it loses it's impact.

I don't think you're stupid Klier, and I have never said that. The complex your clearly have about my feelings towards you are purely self inflicted. The impression I have of you PURELY BASED ON HOW YOU POST ON HERE is that you're a 15 year old boy who has developed his adoration for everything BMW do because his family happened to have BMW's for a number of years. I'm not trying to provoke anybody here. It's just this image I have of you Klier.

Betty S, I know you have a crush on Klier but leave the poor man alone. Let's focus on the cars here.

That looks bloody awesome, pure and coherent lines, no more random ackward ones, hope the concept will look the same.
