4 Series (F32/F33/F36) Rumor: BMW to offer 4 Series four-door coupe

The first generation of the BMW 4 Series consists of the BMW F32 (coupé version), BMW F33 (convertible version) and BMW F36 (five-door liftback version, marketed as 'Gran Coupé') compact executive cars. The 4 Series was created when BMW spun off the 2-door models (coupé and convertible) of the 3 Series into a separate series. Production: July 2013 – September 2020
I know you're far from alone in thinking like this, but I wonder why? Nobody has driven the production car yet. Nobody even knows what power it's got, yet you just "know" it's going to be good. Is it because it's just BMW M? The problem is, I get the impression this kind of thinking as seeped into the boardroom at BMW, and they know car fans will accept whatever M do.

And maybe they (BMW ///M) just knows all the money and time spend on development will deliver a car beyond the expectation.

If the 1M is anything to go by then the new M5 will be just that - quote
yet you just "know" it's going to be good.
;)

The man does have a point.

No, the man does not have a point.
Like stated, the engine is in development for the M3. It is being made because there is a M3 coming. Which automatically means that the X3 M would not have gotten the next M3 engine if there was no M3 coming. The X3 M would have gotten another engine then, or no X3 M would come at all.

Besides, I still think that car journalists are not stupid like forum members, as they actually do some research before writing things down, instead of shouting idiotic 'facts'.

No kidding, after making the best cars in segment for 25 years.
Soooooooooo weird people do this. Soooooooooo not logical :rolleyes:

Either way, carry on with your negativity. It truly is entertaining to read.

Hmm. And what if the X5/X6M is anything to go by? Hardly a resounding "thumbs up" in the reviews.

Don't get me wrong, I do love BMW and they'll always be my favourite manufacturer. I'm just intelligent enough to realise that they don't get a "carte blanche" for my affections.

No, the man does not have a point.

Be careful Martin, Klier thinks you're wrong. :D

Anyway, so here we go again. I'm trying to have a reasonable discussion. Martin managed to repsond correctly. Human managed to respond, and even though he doesn't agree with me, he made his point politely and I have no issue with him having a different opinion. So why can't you do this Klier? Why do you have to start talking about ME being...(insert random personality trait, usually "negativity"...)?

Yes Klier. You know this. I know this. Most people who read this forum know it. The vast majority of people who will hear about the F32 M3 will be reading about it in throwaway reviews on the internet. In magaznies whilst browsing in a shop or on a train. From salesmen (who know nothing about their products on the whole), and all they will hear is "the M3 has the engine from the X3 M". The X5/X6 M wouldn't have existed if it wasn't for the research going into the M5 engine, so they were able to be launched for a quick Buck, but because they were launched first, all we've heard is the M5 is going to have the engine from the X5/X6M. This is going to be a real problem marketing wise for BMW.

Besides, I still think that car journalists are not stupid like forum members, as they actually do some research before writing things down, instead of shouting idiotic 'facts'.

"Idiotic facts"? Nice. One of the most repsected members, Martin, thinks I have a point, so I'll take that as an endorsement

You know, I don't expect you to agree with me, but it would be nice if I could make a post without hearing about my "negativity" every....f***ing......time. If you don't like reading my posts then do me and yourself a favour and just IGNORE ME!!!! :t-banghea

Re: And now the proud owner and after driving an X6 ///M - quote:

I will give it my best shot: The X6 ///M has a Dr. Jackal & Mr. Hyde persona.
Driving off is all quiet and composed, tap the throttle and the free revving nature of the Twin Turbo V8 is worlds apart from the 50i. This car has a totally different temper, sound and 'soul'. The words ///M immediately makes sense and the Magic they make! If our own Martin did not know about the X6 M or haven't heard nor read about it, even he - the master of drive train engineering on GCF could IMO be convinced that this V8 Twin Turbo was a NA engine! Because of it's free revving nature.

Push the M button and plant your foot....OMG! The sound emitted by the 4 tailpipes is DUCATI Superbike (sorry BMW Motorrad) But that is the truth and noting but the truth. The car is also more planted to the road and the lack of wind noise compared to the 50i instantly evident, so the 'body kit' was engineered on the track. The power surge is instant and intimidating so much so that the 50i feels like grandma's car...

In the end I am convinced that after owning a V8 TT 50i and now the -
V8 TT ///M even Betty Swollocks would give BMW M the thumbs up!

One thing is the lack of the sense of speed - SAV!? Yes! It's higher center of gravity steals the 'ass to the tar' experience...unfortunately.

That is from my humble point of view/drive, thus BMW M did magic no-one can deny.

There's really nothing wrong with the X6, for what it is, it's probably a blast! But, the engine in the new M5 is "that engine from the M SUV:s" and I don't know if that is the image people are looking for (90% image here, product is less interesting), but on the other hand... wasn't the Viper engine sourced from a truck? That worked out well, didn't it?

I am slowly coming round to the fact things can't always stay the same at M. Changes have to be made to remain relevant in 2011 and beyond. I didn't like the idea of the 1M in the context of M, but on it's own merits it's obviously one smashing car. The problem I have is that just as I lower my expectations and come to terms with what M have to do to compete, they find some new and exciting way to p*** me off.

M has lost some exclusivity. Tradition was, a brand new, tailored made engine was made for EVERY different M model, so that everything, including weight distribution is made perfect for that M model. Now, they are operating more like AMG, although they do bother to do more development with the chassis I'd imagine.. but engine sharing between M models is just.... i guess people need to get over it and get use to this hard fact.
