4 Series (F32/F33/F36) Rumor: BMW to offer 4 Series four-door coupe

The first generation of the BMW 4 Series consists of the BMW F32 (coupé version), BMW F33 (convertible version) and BMW F36 (five-door liftback version, marketed as 'Gran Coupé') compact executive cars. The 4 Series was created when BMW spun off the 2-door models (coupé and convertible) of the 3 Series into a separate series. Production: July 2013 – September 2020
Whoa That 4er is amazing ...
It looks like this old BMW with very wide headlights..
Maybe some BMW fan can find it for me..

Hhaha not much to go on..:)

It is showing the direction of the new Coupe and Cabrio but the lights are smaller and more shapely like the current car. It does get the recessed repeaters though.

Like the 6er Gran Coupe , (4er) or 3er Gran Coupe is a four door variant of the Coupe. A potential 1er Gran Coupe is being considered.

Some Coupe customers actually need extra space in terms of family or indeed transporting business clients , the extra doors when both 6er and 3er were clinic'ed were found to be very appealing to the chosen clientle.

I am very partial to the cohesive design language displayed on current BMWs'. And we can apparently expect more of the same in the not too distant future.

Mercedes-Benz continues to struggle in terms of exterior design cohesiveness. Unfortunate, as in the area of interior design, M-B has some wonderfully stunning offerings (new CLS, new SLK).

^^^ I like it too, but it's boring. I want to see double (not quad) headlights, and a vertical grille. Everything else is conservative and traditional.

Here is a better picture of the Gran Coupe.

In other news they have picked the models that will form the next M3.

Coupe , Cabrio , Gran Coupe and for the first time there is going to be a Touring. Early plans plan to take the M3 Coupe into three levels of an expanded range focusing on Competition, Motorsport and Lightweight , in a similar fashion to the Porsche 911 GT3/GT2.

What the... even a Touring M3 but NO sedan M3? For the sake of completion and not to diss the sedan, make a sedan M3 as well please?

The 4series has got to be pretty unique... difference in size between the 3 and 5 isn't that much and now to slot a brand new series in between, i just don't know how it's going to happen... what about prices? will the 4series coupe cost more or the 5series sedan (eg).. But it's good i think, opens BMW up for more ideas, build stuff with different shapes.

One thing to think about is, the Chinese culture doesn't like the number 4... and i can say with good certainty that this will be an influential factor for Chinese sales.

In that case BMW better hurry their behinds in creating a new Z8 and 8 series!

If you badge the Coupe, Cabrio and Gran Coupe
under the 4er name, how are you going to call them M3?. It should be M4.

The plan is to retain the M3 name.

The next M3 family has been selected - The name M3 remains despite some unconfirmed changes being reported in the media.

BMW X3M - 2013
High Performance SAV for the Premium Entry Segment.
Groundbreaking debut for new M developed engine which will spread across other models.

The M3 Coupe - 2014
High Performance Luxury Coupe in it's fifth generation.

Plans are also in motion for a series of editions of M3 to capitalize in on (future?) Motorsport success in a similar fashion to the Porsche 911 - GT3/GT2. Expect them to focus on Competition , Motorsport and Lightweight with varying Performance.

The M3 Cabrio - 2015
Retaining a folding hard-top for exclusivity , The current E92 has been successful in emerging markets were blue skies reign, in some aspect outselling or equalling Coupe sales in some markets.

The M3 Gran Coupe - 2016
BMW are not overwhelmed with sales reaction to the current car. But recognize that there is interest for a future variant , however a Gran Coupe essentually a four door variant of the forthcoming F32 Coupe will replace the sedan with a more stylish and performance orientated four door Coupe shape.

The BMW X4M - 2015
High Performance entry segment of downsized "Sport Activity Coupe" concept

The M3 Touring - 2015
For the first time BMW M will hopefully commit to an M3 Touring , largely based on demand from European customers who had to forfeit for the larger M5 Touring when wanting a high performance Wagon from BMW M. Demand for the updated C63 AMG is also influential as will the imminent Audi RS4 Avant.

* There will be no M variant of the 3er Gran Turismo.

@Scott: After you have revealed an interesting timeline for some of the upcoming M-Models - would you please so kind and give also an estimation, when the F22 M2 will be coming?
Maybe you could also shed a light on the possible engine choice of the F22 M? Is there already a decision made whether it will be 4 or 6 cyl.?

Thanks!

I think you know it better, but you just want to make some noise, don't you? ;)
The S55 was/is in development for the M3 .... the X3M now happens to be the first to get this engine....

Yes, I realise that. But the general public will just see it as the M3 getting it's engine from an SUV. Make smart comments about me "making noise" if you feel better, but I'm just stating how it's going to be seen by the vast majority of people, most of which are not on car forums multiple times a day. :usa7uh:

I think you didn't like playing devil's advocate, so why begin now? :usa7uh:

Really? Devil's advocate is ALL I do, which I think is why people hate me. Most of the stuff I post is just that and not necessarily how I feel. Simple fact is, if the X3M comes out before the F32 M3 and they share the same engine, even if they are slightly different, car journalists will mention "the M3 takes it's engine from the X3M" in EVERY single article, just like we've had with the F10 M5. Pretty much every report on the concept M5 has included the words "engine taken from X5/X6M", or "modified X5/X6M engine".

These things matter. :)

Thanks for the information! Could a broad user base / model base for the M3 mean that the core model could be a bit more hardcore as the are alternatives for the practical and/or comfort oriented?

Or, put in another way; should your text above be read "there is a chance for a High Performance Sports Coupe" or "If you want a traditional M coupe, look for the next generation 1 Series M"?

The man does have a point.

If an automobile is visually enticing, offers an excitingly enjoyable driving experience and has a powerful yet efficient powerplant under its' hood, it really doesn't matter if the so-called "purists" are critical or not. A genuinely great automobile remains a genuinely great automobile regardless of whether it is fitted with an "SUV engine" or not. It is quite easy to predict that the BMW M5 will do very well. As will the upcoming M3 successor. And if BMW were to introduce a stellar V6 Biturbo replacing the current NA V8 or a turbocharged IL6 in an M3, I say bring it on. And I couldn't care less if they placed it under the hood of an X3.

I know you're far from alone in thinking like this, but I wonder why? Nobody has driven the production car yet. Nobody even knows what power it's got, yet you just "know" it's going to be good. Is it because it's just BMW M? The problem is, I get the impression this kind of thinking as seeped into the boardroom at BMW, and they know car fans will accept whatever M do.
