They only learned that the best way to move on from it was to offer an exclusive Maybach trim. There is a difference between a genuine stand alone Maybach model and just offering an exclusive interior finish.Elaborate? This Mercedes-Maybach strategy seems to be working for them...indicating they did learn from the standalone brand flop that was the 57/62.

Yes, but this has been discussed several times before..by know it should be self explanatory of the strategy Maybach is following, IMO these half fat Maybach's have to prove themselves considerably before considerations are made for the full fat models..
This would have been far more exclusive and bespoke if they would have changed the grille. It should have been like the concept/traditional. That would have given this car a real difference for buyers to consider.

Part of the problem with the W240/V240 was that they were clearly not stand-alone products from a separate brand, with every Mercedes they slap a Maybach badge on, this becomes harder to reverse, so if they do do a full fat model, people are already going to be assuming it's a Merc in a posh frock.
Having said that.... an S650 Maybach Convertible along the Ocean drive concept of 4 doors would have been stunning, and crucially, unique.

Talking to Autocar, global sales boss Matthias Luhrs said: "There are currently no plans to have a pure Maybach brand, and there is no need," he added explaining that the long-wheelbase S-Class. Maybach has sold more than 15,000 models since it launched, with half of those sales in China.
"A Maybach SUV is definitely one of lots of options, but we have no decision yet," he added.
@ Wolfgang, so are these press cars going to be sold off as well, or they're only for shows?..
Also I'm assuming, these cars will not appear on any MB websites,.as I would love to see what the Cote'D Azure Blue would look like in a configurator or something..
