Return of the King? Maybach Coupé

Do I have this right: unlike the current Mercedes-Maybach saloon (which has a different body to donor S) this S650 has the same bodyshell as the S Class Cabriolet?

Elaborate? This Mercedes-Maybach strategy seems to be working for them...indicating they did learn from the standalone brand flop that was the 57/62.
They only learned that the best way to move on from it was to offer an exclusive Maybach trim. There is a difference between a genuine stand alone Maybach model and just offering an exclusive interior finish.

Yes, but this has been discussed several times before..by know it should be self explanatory of the strategy Maybach is following, IMO these half fat Maybach's have to prove themselves considerably before considerations are made for the full fat models..

Exactly right mercpassion.

This would have been far more exclusive and bespoke if they would have changed the grille. It should have been like the concept/traditional. That would have given this car a real difference for buyers to consider.

Agreed, I actually think that render yesterday looked the business, but it wasn't to be:(..but hey, at least the Cabrio gets a unique bumper unlike the Saloon, even if it is a bit chrome heavy for my liking.

Part of the problem with the W240/V240 was that they were clearly not stand-alone products from a separate brand, with every Mercedes they slap a Maybach badge on, this becomes harder to reverse, so if they do do a full fat model, people are already going to be assuming it's a Merc in a posh frock.

Having said that.... an S650 Maybach Convertible along the Ocean drive concept of 4 doors would have been stunning, and crucially, unique.

Exactly what I feel, however Mercedes as a brand has an handicap in the sense that it is present in every segment, which Rolls or Bentley clearly is not. Therefore even a proper Maybach would always unfortunately bear some resemblence to lesser models..but an ocean drive would be lovely.;)

Might be sold out already. Only 300 will be built, with 75 allocated to the USA. :)

@ Wolfgang, so are these press cars going to be sold off as well, or they're only for shows?..

Also I'm assuming, these cars will not appear on any MB websites,.as I would love to see what the Cote'D Azure Blue would look like in a configurator or something..

Believe these are just press cars and production will start sometime in the spring. Hopefully we may then see some in Cote'D Azure blue as well, mercpassion. :)

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
