CLS Report: Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake Headed To Beijing Auto Show

The Mercedes-Benz CLS (initially called the CLS-Class) is a series of executive cars produced by Mercedes-Benz from December 2003 to August 2023. The original model was a four-door sedan based on the Mercedes E-Class platform, marketed as a four door coupé. An estate (shooting brake) model was later added to the model range with the second generation CLS.
How about some different color spy shots...lol.

Don't know why they're bothering to cover it up. I'm not sure if this will come to the U.S. would be a very small market for it, very small. Next up the AMG version, right now they're probably picking out the mismatched wheels that they're going to use for testing.

It will defintely cause some controversy at the dealership when they put one on the floor here in the U.S. We saw nothing on this car and now suddenly prototypes are all over the place. I would say this will be at the Detroit auto show, if indeed it will be sold here.

I think the rear is the best view. People wont know what to think other than "its a new Mercedes" when they see it on the road with the big star on the booty.

Love it, as a fan of shooting breaks, probably will be the first Merc I actually feel like wanting to own. BMW had a chance with 5GT to make something sexy, but they totally borked it.

Agree, the GT 5 is one terrible sloppy looking car. Thay could have done much better. (BMW will never make a sexy car though, handsome but not sexy.)

Now Mercedes needs to use more imagination on their production car wheels. These are handsome and should be featured on the CLS63 and this Shooting Brake AMG version.

(BMW will never make a sexy car though, handsome but not sexy.)

That isn't even close to being true. They've made them in the past and they make at least 2 now, the Z4 and the 650i Coupe IMO.

Wow. The car is really happening. Let's hope this is the saviour that will finally discourage people from flocking to SUVs for practicality. The 5er GT failed and so did the R-Class. My hopes aren't high given how anticlimactic the whole idea of this car is. It's like those relativity short skirts that chicks wear but on closer perverted inspection, they are shorts and not skirts. This is a major gamble by Mercedes and you can bet that BMW and Audi have the woodoo dolls and nails in hand for this one to fail. However the risks are worth it. The marginal costs of bringing this car to market are low given that the car is practically an E-Class estate with a modified skeleton.

I'm hearing BMW are going to present almost-production-ready 6er Shooting Brake Concept at the same show CLS Shooting Break production car will be shown. :usa7uh:

I believe thay will HOH.
Mercedes always like to try out new ideas with us (Americans) and 98% of the time we buy into them.

It'll fail in the U.S Color me shocked if M-B can get people to flock to this. It won't be the disaster that the R or 5 GT was/is, but it'll be a disaster.

What's the point of a Wagon with little functionality (due to the "4-Door Coupe" body hampered all functionality)? If Americans don't buy Wagons with functionality, I doubt they'll feel enticed to buy a Wagon who's flaunted as the "fashionable Wagon.... With less headroom/function".

But hey, it'll be better for all of us if Americans did flock to Wagons over SUV's, although I hate to admit that I find SUV's to generally have a more pleasing look/character.

Yeah this would be a hard sell I think. The CLS itself is a niche product so this might be a tough sell for the reasons that K/A mentioned. Then again if they only want to sell like 1-2K units then it might work. Maybe just the AMG version only as a special order only. I dunno about this one, but I have the feeling Mercedes will sell it here just to see if it will work.

Seeing some of the negative reactions on other sites from Americans. It leads me to believe this car will be a tough to sell to U.S. patrons.

I think this car will do well maybe not in USA but other markets it should do well i wish it was exactly like the concept..

Interesting with every shot.
Im wondering what it will compete with. I`m guessing this is MBs answer to the 5erGT.

I saw a CLS today and did a double take. LOVE LOVE LOVE the looks. The Shooting brake looks just as nice. The 5er GT is an abomination to anything automobile. That CLS looks leagues better then the fugly 5 GT.

Mercedes-Benz hasn't exactly been secretive about its desire to offer a five-door hatchback version of its ultra-stylish CLS sedan. After all, the first concept for the latest CLS, which was introduced as a 2012 model, introduced us to the CLS Shooting Break Concept at the Beijing Motor Show in 2010. And yes, MB itself called the car a Shooting Break, not Brake.

Based on that concept, we have a pretty solid idea of how the CLS Shooting Brake will look. Judging by these spy shots that were snapped in Northern Sweden, there won't really be any surprises. And that's totally fine by us.

We'd expect Mercedes-Benz to deliver its super hatch in both CLS550 (with 4.6-liter twin-turbo V8) and CLS63 AMG (with 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8) flavors, which means the biggest question left to answer will be whether the company decides to call it the Shooting Brake or the Shooting Break. We, like pretty much everyone else in the world, vote for Brake.

The CLS shooting brake reminds me the Nissan Primera wagon and not for the good. I dunno, I just don't like the shooting brake and her slant ass. (I love the E class wagon, my fav estate ever)

That looks absolutely repulsive. The E Wagon looks better in every which way.
