CLS Report: Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake Headed To Beijing Auto Show

The Mercedes-Benz CLS (initially called the CLS-Class) is a series of executive cars produced by Mercedes-Benz from December 2003 to August 2023. The original model was a four-door sedan based on the Mercedes E-Class platform, marketed as a four door coupé. An estate (shooting brake) model was later added to the model range with the second generation CLS.
It's an astonishingly good Wagon indeed, and this coming from a guy who doesn't like Wagons at all!

I've seen some really stunning pics of E Wagons, I don't think I've seen a Wagon as aggressive or sculpted as it. I would even understand if some people liked the Wagon more than the Sedan!

^ Looks like the CLS Shooting Brake wont make it to the USA. ;)

Mercedes-Benz USA won't take any more large station wagons--including the new CLS Shooting Brake or the freshened C-class wagon--because they don't sell well here.

You're not alone! I love the Hockeys and how they're unique and fit to the E's design. The corporate straight bars lose some distinction and are more generic appearing to me. Lots of E owners on the M-B Boards feel the same way, but opinions of course will vary.

The concept looks great in that pic. Is the profile that doesn't work for me.

Exactly, the hockey fit the design better and the straight ones look generic and "uninspired"

To me, the only manufacturer that can make wagons look nicer than the sedans is Audi. The upcoming RS6 looks SO much nicer than this. The interior will probably be a great hit, but the fussy lines on the CLS look good on a sexy, stylish coupe, not a practical wagon. The entire car just seems a little confused to me. A four-door coupe wagon...?

The question I have is why was the hockey stick design only fitted to the E class?

That's the best part. In an age where manufacturers share (whore) every part throughout the lineup, M-B gave the E exclusive DRL's that were designed and formed perfectly with the E's actual design. Now, in a probably cost-cutting effort, the E has the same generic-corporate straight DRL's as every other Benz. I.e, it's helped the E lose its distinction. The straight ones are easier to swallow, but for someone like me especially, who mods the aesthetic of his E, the hockey sticks are more my speed.

I think the rearlights on the Shooting Break Concept are going to be in the CLS LCI.

Who was the genius that told Mercedes "we, the customers",needed, wanted, desired,,,,,a CLS "Shooting break"???

What the hell is a shooting break???? A station wagon with inclined rear glass???? No thanks!!!

The "CLS" is a work of art,,,,,don´t mess it up Mercedes!!!

I saw a fuggin' niiiiice CLS63 last night, in this dark gray/bronze color. The streetlight was soft and it hid the harsh dropping line, so you just had to focus on the cars architecture and overall design, it actually made it appear monolithic. That's how I wish it would always look!

This Shooting Brake is a bad joke I hope, and it will surely bring impurity and laughing stock to the CLS's nameplate.

Mercedes has seen a lot of success from the CLS-Class since it was initially launched in 2004, although at the time it was the only a four-door coupe that was on the market. It has since seen rivals such as the Audi A7 and Porsche Panamera arrive on the scene that have threatened its position. The German superpower is now looking to make new waves in the premium sector with the launch of the CLS Shooting Break.
We first saw a concept preview of the model at the 2010 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition and Mercedes was looking for a positive reaction to sway their decision for production. It is quite clear their decision has been made, judging by the prototype caught testing in the attached video.
The CLS Shooting Break prototype is wearing only a light layer of camouflage, it reveals that the styling of the production version will look very similar to the concept. The front and rear will get a few minimal cosmetic changes and the dimensions will remain relatively unchanged with a length of around 5 meters.
The engine range from the Coupe will carry over to the wagon/estate variant. Expect a 204 PS (150 kW / 201 hp) 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, a 265 PS (195 kW / 262 hp) 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, a 306 PS (225 kW / 302 hp) 350 BlueEFFICIENCY, and a 408 PS (300 kW / 402 hp) 500 BlueEFFICIENCY.
Sales are expected to begin in the summer with prices starting a little higher than the four-door coupe version.

Don't like it, hope it's the cladding but I doubt it.

Roofline is quite poor imo, not coupe-ish enough looking at the windows....there's this huge void/piece of sheet metal between the actual roofline and the window line, and I don't like that at all.

If we are talikng about the same thing here, I`m with you!

If the rear 3/4 window gets cut like this I`m not going to like it.
It better go all the way down like the concept.
