I realy hope that the serial production version will be better
Just looking at this crushed alcantara at the headrest already, makes me sick…

Looking at the seats and door panels, it looks to be a mix of S-class and C-class. I am disappointed that the door panels and grab handles look identical to the C-class but the seats look bigger and flatter and similar to the S-class.

Okay, so they took everything that’s worse in the C-class compared to the S, and put it in the new E. Then they took the one thing that’s WORSE in the S-class compared to the C (the standard trim steering wheel), and put it in the E. makes no sense to me. Who wants that massive black plastic trim piece on their Mercedes steering wheel? Especially when they already had the aluminium version to borrow from the EQE.

Actually these seem to be exactly the ones on the EQS

They do seem very similar but the seats in the E class appear to have a slightly different backrest shape on the top edge near headrest. Or maybe I am wrong and its the angle of pic that does that?

Unlike some of you, I see much more C than S in those interior shots. The door cards and bin, the armrests, the seats and especially the headrests, with those very cheap plastic parts on the back and foot of them. It all oozes C class.

Edit: if the rimple in the seat leather already can be seen after several of 1.000 of miles, it doesn’t bode well for people planning to drive it for longer time or many miles. My positive feelings towards the W214 for now are limited to the exterior. Experiencing it in real life, maybe changes that or better yet, I hope it will change that.

My current conclusion is: the new E will be no S alternative, but a C

Unfortunately you are correct. I don't think the E has been an S alternative since the W211. The S always seems to be cut from a different cloth and the E more of an upscaled C.

If they can justify putting such cheap door cards on an EQE, I don't have high hopes for the E's level of finish.

The E-Class has always been a fusion of both the S and C with its own tiny variations.
It's all about perspective this time around with a balancing act. With the W213 E-Class, the interior was a mix of the S and C. The body keeled more to the C except for the shoulder line. The W214 E appears to be more S-Class on the exterior while the trade-off is the C door cards and probably some other interior bits yet to be revealed.

The top dog SL AMG door cards are not that much different than the latest C and E-Class. Spend more money to get better trim levels which should be offered.
