That black plastic stuff around the grill could indeed be the case. It would make a connection to the EQ design. No one wants that, but it’s an imaginable explanation.

If true, I just hope it will be an option and not present on all models

Really, I don’t understand Mercedes anymore. Surely they must know, that most people don’t like all that glossy black plastic in a Mercedes, be that in the interior or on the exterior. Yet, they just keep on abundantly using this material.

The grill with its surrounding is a separate part from the bumper. There is a chance that this surrounding is in the colour of the car, because the car on which we saw it was black with a white bumper and the grill was in the colour of the car and not that of the bumper. I mean there is a possibility that they put only different bumper, due to some demage of the original one but kept the original grill.

The black surrounding, if planned to give some connection to these ugly EQ fronts, would make sense only if there would be a similar plan for the grill variants of Avantgarde and AMG.
Nothing in this direction could be seen with the prototypes.
So my hope is that that ugly black thing will not happen.

Looks better without the hyper screen IMO. I'm not the fan of the MIELE gloss black kitchen appliance look that debuted in the Audi Etron and A6.

I am hoping this grill is a preview of the updated/facelifted EQ models' grills. This is MUCH better.

So the question comes naturally judging by the possible black outline on the grille and the possibility that the rear lights are combined with lighting, this we will see will be a class e or an eqe sedan?
