At this time I'm sensing the E-class has been canceled. There's some heavy rumors going on right now that lots of ICE models are going to be cancelled and EV launch dates have been moved forward.

Having an EQE and E class is not going to work, so you might have a point. And an ICE only next gen E class seems impossible to me in what, 2023? If there's a new E coming it'll likely be a facelift of the current just to keep the ICE-only markets happy. What Porsche seems to be doing with the Macan.

I think the W206 will live a miserable life as well. Probably not the first 3 years. But after that...

Keep having the feeling Germans are going to be late to the EV party. I only see VAG doing well, and that's mostly due to its fire power.

I disagree. The luxury EV market is thin on the ground in the volume segments. Funnily enough, it seems like Maserati may be one of the brands earlier than the Germans with their EV Grecale that should be here in 2022.

Well, just compare the A6 e-tron with the EQS. Different segments, I know. But just the concept itself. Or the Q4 e-tron or the upcoming Macan with the iX, which is probably the ugliest BMW ever.

Much has to change this decade to make me believe MB is going to retain its status as an EV producer.

It sounds like from this post your main worry is styling. Yes, I think that is going to be very interesting in terms of consumer reaction...

At least pertaining to VAG and M-B + their suppliers, I believe that they are becoming increasingly well-prepared for highly committed, full-blown BEV market share offensives. As for BMW, they currently appear to be promoting compromised products, but I suspect that they too will become increasingly able to compellingly embrace the BEV era.

Problem for BMW is they won't release their EV only platform until 2025. A year before Audi stops releasing ICEs. That and the fact they are releasing some of the ugliest designs in the last decades.

If you are referring to "neue-klasse" platform, I believe, it is still not an EV only platform, but accommodates everything from ICE to hybrid to even FCEV - https://germancarforum.com/threads/bmw-ag-whats-next.49743/post-1018140

Wait... What? Wan't it clear this was not the way to go? There is no other manufacturer out there following this route.

Not an engineering, but having two lines, one for ICEs and other for EVs and proggressively cut the former in favor of the latter seems like the best way to go at this point.

I reckon that my biggest question pertaining to future M-Bs' is:

"Is the "One Bow Design Architecture" sustainable ? Or will M-B eventually abandon it in favour of more "conventional" solutions ?"

I think if we dont get a W214 then we will get a update with the new interior like the C and S and few minor changes exterior.

That platform is “electric first” which is the important distinction.

Guyz…how many times?
There will be no new E-Class anymore.
Like the W233 is the last S-Class.
Only EQ models… so EQE
Sad, but true.

Will the current one get a second face lift what about countries like India..S africa..Braxil where elcetric is far from reality ?

There is no way Mercedes won't launch a replacement for the E-class, It's one of their top sellers for many years, the E-class sold well over 300K cars per year for the last 3 years and has a stable car of theirs for many decades. I think they will make the W214 a more electric-friendly platform with probably smaller engines and more plug-in hybrids combined with Full BEV models.

Yeah right. The 2er AT, 2er GT and 2er GC all are 10 times worse, and that is without hyperbole. And all three mentioned are current models, lol

BMW has the CFRP core iX fully electric platform, which obviously is well suited for other cars too, like a sedan or sporty car/coupe/whatever.

the same facts are for their S-Class
Its their initiator, their inovation master, best selling luxury car, but still: the W223 is the last S-Class

Too early to draw conclusions on the W214 not being built.
The W213 face/lift is just over a year old.
The latest E was introduced in 2016 as a 2017 model. Facelift usually comes around the 4th year of the life cycle which would be 2020.
The Facelift usually lasts about 3 years so there is still some time to go.

Mercedes is taking the right steps here. Showing early prototypes of the W214 is not a good idea at this time.

The success (or not) of the soon-to-be presented EQE sedan will be an utmost lithmus test regarding the acceptance of its' exterior design architecture. It will be the car that determines the fate of the "One Bow" design paradigm.

If confirmed, the news would almost be sensational, after the s-class, so it would seem that Mercedes no longer puts into production the next E-class, which was scheduled for 2023, are there sure sources?
