As far as I can remember from my childhood towards my teenage years: late 2000s to the entire 2010s for the product launches of E-Class and 5 Series. These are the timelines:Crazy how close the E and 5 are this time. Virtually the same launch, and I don't think that has ever happened before....They were always close, but not like this.
I think it's actually pretty cool so close together. The E vs 5 is one of the biggest (if not the) rivalries in the automotive world.
Just a shame the E has been leaked to the amount it has. And it appears BMW has patched some leaks lately to the point I am surprised we haven't seen more.
W212 versus F10 era: 2009 to 2016.
W212 was released in January 2009 (early) and followed by the F10 in November 2009 (late). The majority of 2009 felt like this was a prominent year for the W212 since it has been debuted in the beginning of that year. While the F10 was strongly related with the 2010 due to a fact that it has been presented near the end of 2009.
W213 versus G30 era: 2016 to 2023.
W213 has an official world premiere in January 2016 (first quarter), then the G30 was announced by October 2016 (fourth and final quarter). Both generations of E and 5er felt like they were solidly associated with the 2017 or known as late 2010s vibe and atmosphere. Even though the W213 has a bit of 2016-esque here and there.
An upcoming W214 versus G60 era: 2023.
Both W214 and G60 are going to make their first public appearances on the second quarter of this year. The W214 is likely to be debuted in a few months earlier than the G60 which has been confirmed to have a world premiere in May. Personally, I think both vehicles are going to represent the mid 2020s German-European Executive Sedan/Premium E-Segment rivalries in various areas if they have the right ingredients. Moreover, this seems to be a coincidence to a competition between the W211 and E60 during the mid 2000s.
