Jeep [Renders] Jeep Grand Wagoneer

Jeep is an American automobile brand, now owned by multi-national corporation Stellantis. Jeep has been part of Chrysler since 1987, when Chrysler acquired the Jeep brand, along with other assets, from its previous owner, American Motors Corporation (AMC). Official website: Jeep

Jeep says 2018 Grand Wagoneer will sit on top of the range and rival the Range Rover

Jeep global brand director Michael Manley has released preliminary details about the resurrected Grand Wagoneer.

Jeep is bringing back the "Grand Wagoneer" moniker for a new flagship model set to be positioned above the Grand Cherokee which will adopt a three-row seating layout. Talking to Autocar, the company's global brand director Michael Manley said the model is a "big focus and will fill out the brand at the top."

He went on to say the Grand Cherokee will not collide with the upcoming Maserati Levante as Manley points out "Maserati and Jeep are two very different brands" and the "Levante will play in a part of the market that Jeep is not playing in." He clearly specified the Grand Cherokee will rival the Range Rover as the two companies "have historically competed."

We remind you that about a month ago during the Paris Motor Show we heard Manley sayingthe 2018 Jeep Grand Wagoneer will "very, very effectively compete with premium SUVs." At that time he also acknowledged the company is taking into consideration coming out with competitors for the BMW X4 and/or X6.

Ladies and gents that can hardly wait for the all-new Jeep Grand Wagoneer to debut, it’s our pleasure to offer a reconfirmation on the model’s 2018 debut from Jeep’s numero uno, Mr. Mike Manley.

On sale date? “Late 2018.” Speaking to British publication AutoExpress at the Geneva Motor Show, CEO Mike Manley is adamant that the new Jeep Grand Wagoneer “will be sold in Europe” as well, which is great news considering that we’ve been promised a full-fledged Range Rover competitor. And now prepare to hear a pretty curious detail that’ll blow your mind!

The previously mentioned publication learned that the 2019 Jeep Grand Wagoneer will likely “share a number of components” with the still-not-launched Maserati Levante performance-oriented luxury crossover SUV.

Let’s see how that pans out, V6 and V8 twin-turbo powerplants and all, but I want to tell you a story first. Did you know some Maserati V6 engine blocks are made by Chrysler in the United States? I’m not joking! 50 to 80 aluminum blocks are cast each day at the Kokomo, Indiana foundry, after which they are shipped to the Trenton Engine Complex. Here, Ferrari engineers supervise machining of the blocks.

What engines? The 3-liter twin-turbo V6 block is the culprit here, packing anything between 330 horsepower to 410 ponies. So fret not now, your future Jeep Grand Wagoneer will be a product of the Red, White and Blue first and foremost. And on that bombshell, here’s another one: chances are the naturally aspirated HEMI of the SRT-ized Grand Cherokee will be dead in the near future.

That leaves the next-gen Grand Cherokee and the Grand Wagoneer with only one V8 option: the Maserati Quattroporte’s 3.8-liter twin-turbo unit, which churns out 560 horsepower. On an ending note, diesel-hungry Europeans will most likely get a 3.0 V6 turbo diesel of the Maserati Ghibli for the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee (due in 2017) and the much posher, platform-sharing 2019 Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

The resurgence of the famous Jeep Grand Wagoneer has been one of the hottest rumors concerning the American brand lately, but while people were whispering tidbits of information about the upcoming SUV, Jeep has been keeping itself busy.

We think the Jeep range has never been more appealing than it is now, with the possible exception of the Cherokee model which appears to have suffered from a genetic failure that made it look different from its siblings. The Renegade, the new Compass and the Grand Cherokee, on the other hand, all represent more than decent choices in their respective segments.

Like Land Rover and unlike the rest of the premium carmakers, when it comes to SUVs, Jeep has the background to back its claims for undisputed off-road abilities. Unlike Land Rover's Range Rover arm, though, Jeep lacks any luxury credentials, which is what the Grand Wagoneer is supposed to fix.

According to those rumors that have been going around for the past year or so, the Grand Wagoneer will be priced in the same region as the Range Rover, meaning it will easily go over the $100,000 mark. More recently, people with heavy saying inside the company said that $100,000 would represent the maximum cap, which sounds a lot more reasonable.

It's not that we doubt Jeep could make a car that looks like it's worth over $100k - the Americans do have Maserati expertise in their backyard, after all. Our concerns lie with whether the public would be willing to take that kind of money out of its pockets for a new product from a carmaker that used to play in a different league up to that point.

Whatever the case, the Grand Wagoneer will represent the top of the Jeep range, slotting above the current pack leader, the Grand Cherokee. The new SUV is believed to ride on an extended Grand Cherokee platform, giving it enough space to become the first Jeep seven-seater since the Commander was discontinued.

Auto Guide managed to intercept the Grand Wagoneer's patent filings with the European Union Intellectual Property Office, and the technical drawings show us a vehicle that looks like a Land Rover Discovery clone with a Jeep front end.

If they are indeed linked to the production version of the SUV, the Grand Wagoneer's strong suit will not be its exterior design. It seems completely bland, which would make some sense considering this car is supposed to mix stylish elegance with the Jeep ethos. That has has to be one of the toughest briefs in the industry for an exterior designer.

Like so many other things about the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, its release date is also unclear - and by "date" we mean "year." It could show up by the end of next year as a 2019 model year, but if that were the case, we should have spotted at least some testing mules out there. A 2019 release sounds a lot more probable, but we fear that with every passing year, the design would get more and more obsolete.

That's a K8.

Yep. This vehicle (K8/Yuntu) is on a modified CUSW platform (similar to Chrysler Pacifica) and won't even be Trail-Rated, which is fine for it's target market in China. It will be a Chrysler crossover SUV with different styling over here in the U.S. It will also use the Pacifica's PHEV system.

Grand Wagoneer (WS) will be a BOF based on next gen RAM 1500. It will debut in calendar 2019.

Some previous rumors suggested that Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer will have 5.7 liter HEMI as a base engine. That's not true. It will debut a new GME T6 engine. Most likely that's a base engine.

2022 JEEP GRAND WAGONEER: HERE'S WHAT WE THINK IT WILL LOOK LIKE
Renderings show how three-row SUVs could look

Jeep has bolstered its lineup with a pickup truck and more crossover offerings, but one product that has been sorely missing from the range is a three-row SUV. Soon, FCA will remedy that by bringing back the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer nameplates for two SUVs slotting above the Grand Cherokee. Jeep has kept details on the upcoming large SUVs close to the chest, including what they will look like—but we can guess. These renderings could give you an idea what the real-deal Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will look like when they arrive in a couple years.

Though the SUV's overall shape is reminiscent of the Grand Cherokee, the Wagoneer is expected to be body-on-frame, sharing components with the Ram 1500. We've spied unusual Ram prototypes testing nearby that we believe to be mules for the Wagoneer. In some photos you can barely make out the truck's rear independent suspension. Swapping the Ram's rear live axle out for an independent setup should grant more passenger space in the third row. The Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will be built at FCA's Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Michigan, alongside the new Ram HD.

Our rendering draws heavily from the Jeep Yuntu concept, which was shown a couple years back at the Shanghai auto show. That concept eventually became the Grand Commander, a seven-seat crossover that will only be sold in China. Still, many of the Yuntu's styling elements could influence the design of the truck-based Jeep Wagoneer. One thing we know the two will have in common is a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. In its five-year plan, FCA revealed that the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer would get plug-in hybrid variants. As for other engine options, the Wagoneer could share some of its powertrains with the Ram 1500. Likely candidates include the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 and 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, possibly with eTorque mild hybrid assistance. The Wagoneer siblings could also get the latest version of the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6, which packs 260 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque.

It'll be the biggest Jeep ever actually. Still smaller than the Ford Expedition Max and Chevrolet Suburban though.
Yes true, I dont think there are any cars on the market that are bigger than the Expedition Max and Suburnban, those cars are behemoths. I reckon the Wagoneer could be the size of a Tahoe
