Head lights will be fine and the car will be fine IMO. This is looking to be another exciting car from BMW! It will be a cracker

Yeah I agree, this is going to be fantastic looking, and a true BMW for the fans.
A 'toned down' exterior design compared to the 7er, yet with likely the same style interior and details. Complete win.

I never understand why people here worry about BMW designs lol. They please and surprise people again and again and know how to play this game the best. On the contrary I worry about the other 2 lol.

Huge front overhang in this photo. I can only hope the real thing won’t look like this.
Is it because of the turbocharger, placed in front of the front axle?

Non-M sport looks a bit bland, as always.

Also, would be nice to hear why BMW is diminishing its own design trademarks. Seems like hoff-kinks look less hoff-kinks lately. With this new 5er, it looks like the twin kidney grille is also watered down.

You must be referring to the upwards line, because for the rest it's Hoffmeister 101. Also don't quite see what you mean with a watered down grille, but we'll see soon enough I suppose.

What? lol

If we assume the F10 to be the most traditional modern 5er, comparing it to this G60 shows clear differences. Starting from proportions (this 5er looks influenced a bit by fastbacks), rearlights (no more L-shaped rearlights), hoff-kink (this looks closer to the 8er GC than to G70 7er, for example), frontlights (the quad eyes LEDs look less and less like the original angel eyes) and grille.

What do I mean with the kidney grille? Well, if you look at the shape in spy pics, which IMO is clearly vissible now, besides the inner shape, in which you can see the kidneys, the entire grille is one single piece now. The upper chrome part is now straight, from example and the kidneys are linked by a chrome piece as well. It's quite different from the F10 kidneys, or even the G30 5er, which had entirely separated kidneys (even though this new trend of linking them had started to show off with that black piece between both).

I undertand there had to be some evolution on certain aspects, and overall this car looks quite good. But I'm affraid some nice traditional design details present on BMWs will be lost here.

Strong resemblance to Škoda

The raised greenhouse, or kick in the rear door panel is not going anywhere when the camo comes off.
That feature along with the sharply dipping boot will be unique to the new 5-Series. Unfortunately, the overhangs look a bit longer this time around.
It reminds me of the E39

I don't like the proportions. The rear overhang looks short. w214 is more sculptural. but this will be the winner in the cabin...
