Well, putting together some previous info posted by others, I understood that G60 design was frozen not too long ago. In addition, design step from G30 to G60 would be substantial i.e. in the vein of E60 compared to E39. I do expect first prototypes to appear in the next couple of months.

As featured in Autozeitung I presume. The accuracy of their renderings and illustrations is inconsistent at best, but on the more rare occasions they can come pretty close to the real thing. I have no idea whether this is one of them. But regardless, it's not really that bad methinks.

Yeah, can't say I'm thrilled about this "smiling pig" phase they're going through at the moment. New M3/4 shnozz is barely tolerable but the new 4er's with that smiling vent under the grille is gross. This render shows a mix of the two.

While definitely a step in the wrong direction, this would be hardly surprissing. Latest trends in BMW front design are huge vertical kidneys and splitted headlights, so it was clear one of them (maybe both?) were coming to the G60 5er.

Not sure what to expect from cars like the G60 5er or W214 E-Class. They are probably the last ICE 5er and E-Class, so not sure how competitive they will be vs upcoming EVs like the e-tron GTS.

I was led to believe that there would be a couple of different design languages running in parallel bases on BMW’s internal customer research: sensible one and more adventurous one. This can be seen comparing the 3 series sedan with the 4 series coupe. Or the 1 series sedan/hatch compared with the yet-to-be released 2 series coupe.

Based on this logic the new 5 series would not have the massive grille but would be more in line with the 3 series. But who knows in the end

BMW would be really foolish to redesign the beautiful 5er into something with a ugly grille. They're already apologizing and talking out their ass about the current 4/M3/M4 grille. I've been saying for years and years, good looking cars with beautiful design need not one word of "explanation" Period. This can't even be argued anymore.

With that being said, I like the current/upcoming theme as much as you do. Which means I don't like it at all.
