The new 5er could very well be THE BMW to have. It’s quintessential and through and through BMW. If it offers airsuspension as an option, if you can spec it as luxurious as a 7er, if it’s around 5 meters in length and maximal 1.90 meters in width and if it comes with a wide array of engine options, it is, to me, the ideal BMW and a real alternative to cars like 7er/A8/S.

I think one of the Diesel variants that will be appear and available on the G60 engine lineup is the B57 40d plus Mild-Hybrid motor that is recently been added into the G70.

My prediction of the upcoming G60 engine variants based on the current iX as well as the recent 7 Series and i7 would be: 530i, 540i, 530d, 540d, 530e, 540e, 550e, M560e, i5 eDrive40, i5 xDrive50 and i5 M60.

Like for most of the European countries, I think the Mild Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid engines lineup (intro models) would start from the 540d xDrive, 550e xDrive and M560e xDrive (based on the way that G70 has been arranged by BMW).

If we’d ever be so lucky to get still two I6 Diesel engines? If so, that would be great. I guess the 540d will be linked to a mandatory xDrive and the 530d will be available as a non-xDrive variant. As long there will be a I6 diesel, non-xDrive I am a happy person.

Interestingly, a couple weeks ago, I went to talk with daddysauto via Instagram about the Diesel engines in terms of how many variants are going to be presented in the G60 family. Fortunately, he stated that there is going to be at least two Diesels: one is the B47 530d (formerly 520d, or in my own guess is based on the 25d) and another one is the B57 540d which shared and borrowed the entire engine from the G70. Additionally, the 740d is supposedly came up with a title of 735d, but later BMW upgraded it into the 40d instead.

 
@Titot_Totti ah, apperently only one I6 diesel. Calling a 4 cylinder diesel 530d is something I got to get used to, but it aligns with what happend to the petrol engine 530i.
Do you have any information about the 540d being RWD or xDrive?

From what BMW has been done for the European engine lineup of the G70. I personally think that they are going to merge the 540d with xDrive to align with the 550e xDrive which is exactly the same route as the 740d and 750e. By the way, that’s my own prediction. ?

I’ve read somewhere, could even be here at GCF, there‘s a 740d RWD in the pipeline. Maybe a 540d RWD as well? Wishful thinking perhaps. MB is probably doing the same with the next E class: only one I6 diesel (E 400d 4Matic) I’m afraid.

Yes there might be an additional model of 740d by having a rear wheel drive version according to the Bimmerpost. I personally think that the rear wheel drive Diesel variants for the G60 might be available as only 530d B47. While the xDrive Diesels are 530d xDrive and 540d xDrive (despite the ongoing G30 has the B57 540d with the xDrive only).

By the way it’s so fascinating to see the comparisons and as well as the competitions between the Diesel W214 and the Diesel G60:

Another possibility-The entry level Diesels: E 220 d OM654 vs 520d or 523d or even 525d B47

Interesting facts about the recent updates:
-21 inch alloy wheels as the options. ?
-The i5 variants will be refreshed by March 2025. ?
-M Sport package will not be available as an option for the G68 Long Wheelbase.
