You can say what you will about the Chinese manufactures and electric cars, but they are serious about this and they have the financial resources to make it happen and do it right.

Yes you are absolutely correct. I have seen more and better infrastructure to support EVs in smaller Chinese villages than in major metropolitan Cities.

After my time in Shanghai, I have changed my mind as well. There is genuine motivation to move people into EV. I was driven in one for most of the time while i was in Shanghai.

^ I have noticed that people's perceptions on EVs and their capabilities always change after they have experienced them. Same thing happened with me.

Today Great Wall Motors announced their new electric brand called ORA. Will introduce 7 new electric vehicles by 2025. 2 of them will use the same architecture as the electric Mini.

Great Wall Motors recently announced the Euler R1 (going on sale in 2019) with a 35kW battery. From a proportion standpoint - I think the Electric Mini is going to be very similar to the R1.

Hmmm. Shades of Smart ForFour?

There was always talk about using the current MINI as a c-segment car allowing a small-mini-MINI ala Rocketman to slot underneath. This would eliminate the 3dr and Cabrio allowing the Rocketman to take the role of the 3dr. Going back to the 2000 MINI before it got MAXI.
The current MINI has got too big but I have admiration for the Clubman and the JCW 3dr. Everything else is just a sign of demographic progress. The Countryman is an abomination.

While the current Mini is still a small car, the enlarged head and tail lights gives it a clumsier look compared with a few generations ago.

A small and cute variant would be a great addition to the line up.

I do not know if it is a repost, these are from several years ago, since that time it seemed to me that it was a very good starting point for the new cooper and today seeing them is so current and feasible that it is a pity that something like this is not materialize.

It would be a very good way to put aside the retro a bit, without losing it and losing nothing of essence and character, after 3 generations the MINI remains identical from pillar A backwards, it seems that they ran out of ideas, and this It's a little what Citroen did with great success and a way to re-invent with a lot of style, I think it's a student's job and I love it.

I think a new Paceman coupe style with four doors this time, and something of this freshness would also serve to move and lift sales

Some of the most interesting news I have heard relates to a back-basics MINI think the post 2000 model mixed with the Rocketman.

This where rumour control takes over in regards to a suitable partner to develop the car and share costs so development does not compromise profit.

I have heard that there will be a concept to show new design language for the brand as well. But of course there is much debate on to evolve MINI to an Electric only brand.

Having attended a workshop at Aschheim for the Cooper S"e" it is interesting to hear that the electric MINI has great interest and deposits are being taken. Not surprising because it is fabulous and certainly could attract those that have left the MINI brand for elsewhere.

Surprisingly statistics show that migration from MINI to BMW is not particularly high something the new 1er aims to challenge.
Migration from MINI to BMW is found to be the 2er Active/Gran Tourer and X1.

Like BMW the next generation of MINIs diverse models will also be culled.
Sadly the Countryman stays.

I don’t even know what Mini stand for any longer. Want a fun and compact hatchback then buy a Fiesta ST, the Golf GTI is the competent all rounder and if practicality is a priority then there are many A segment hatchbacks to choose from.

The Cooper S looks great in 3 door configuration but the 5 door and Clubman are bloated. Btw, have you ever tried spending a Mini? They are extremely pricey after options.

I hope the next generation will be a revolution with a clear purpose and selling point.

MINI is slowly poisoning BMW. Get rid of it and the FWD platform, and maybe BMW will be saved, because they are drowning into sh!t more and more.

I don't even see the point of BMW owning them anymore other than having a headache over it...
Like...... why? The brands are so vastly different.

I owned the first BMW made Mini BTW, a JCW Cooper S. Fantastic car, but the brand has been going downhill since then, with the Cooper getting bigger and bigger, and all these other crazy cars they now have.

MINI

Mini (stylized as MINI) is a British automotive brand founded in 1969, owned by German BMW since 2000, and used by them for a range of small cars assembled in the United Kingdom, Austria, and the Netherlands. The word Mini has been used in car model names since 1959, and in 1969 it became a brand in its own right when the name "Mini" replaced the separate "Austin Mini" and "Morris Mini" car model names.
