Macan [Renders] 2021 Porsche Macan E

The Porsche Macan is a compact luxury crossover SUV (D-segment) produced by Porsche since 2014. It is the smaller SUV from Porsche below the Cayenne. The first-generation Macan went on production from February 2014 with petrol and diesel engine options. In 2024, Porsche released the second-generation Macan which is a battery electric vehicle built on the dedicated Premium Platform Electric (PPE) EV platform.

2025 Porsche Macan EV’s Digital Gauge Pack Shows Disappointing Electric Range
Dashboard shows just 145 miles with 80 percent change remaining

Macan-EV-1024x576.webp

Porsche’s all-electric Macan will feature 800-volt electrics for super-speedy 270 kW charging, and judging from our latest spy shots, that’s just as well, especially for anyone planning on using theirs in cold climates.

Our spy photographers captured the much-delayed electric SUV being put through its Arctic paces ahead of an expected launch later this year and managed to grab some shots of the interior, including the Macan’s fully digital gauge cluster. One close-up image shows both the remaining battery charge and the remaining electric driving range, and the figures aren’t pretty.

We can see that the battery is charged to 80 percent but the driving range display shows just 234 km (145 miles) available before the driver needs to find a charging station. Those kinds of numbers, while never great, could be considered quite normal in a cheap EV with a small battery pack. But we already know that every version of the Macan EV will come with a large 100 kWh battery.

The data in the photograph doesn’t exactly tally with intel from Porsche insiders, who have suggested that over 300 miles (483 km) should be possible on a full battery. But anyone with EV experience will tell you that how and where you drive an electric car has a massive impact on the driving range. And most obviously, we can see from the other photographs that the Macan was being driven in northern Sweden, close to the Arctic circle, which is hardly the optimum environment for an EV battery. That said, the temperature display says 0.5˚ C (33˚ F), which isn’t really that cold.

It’s also possible that the first 20 percent of the battery’s charge could have been smoked with the Macan’s throttle pedal mashed firmly into the carpet while the test team pounded around a frozen lake and made use of the 603 hp (612 PS) dual-motor drivetrain’s thumping 737 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque.

Other than that range figure, though, we like what we see in these pictures. The curved instrument cluster looks slightly smaller than the one fitted to the Taycan sedan and it’s nice to see that Porsche has fitted physical toggles for the temperature controls on the lower console.
We’re expecting Porsche to reveal the Macan, which will be sold alongside the existing ICE version, at this November’s Los Angeles auto show and it should arrive in showrooms the following spring as a 2024 model. But there’s a strong likelihood that Porsche will let slip key details, including the true driving range before the covers come off.

It appears that the horrid split headlight design washing through the industry that I hoped was only part of the vehicle's development could very well be part of the final design. This looks like a Lynk & Co vehicle from the front, and although I like the flyline, the overall egg shape isn't working for me.

I own a Macan, and was hoping to trade it in for one of these e-Macans after it debuts but now I'm not so sure. Still holding out final judgment until the unveiling, but not so promising thus far.

It definitely is part of the final design. Vehicles don't make it this far into development with mock lighting setups. The lights themselves may be placeholders but not the placement.

It's been about 2,000 years since this is about to come out

Porsche's best-selling model is due to receive an electric makeover in 2024. The Macan EV – or whatever it's going to be called – will certainly bring new customers into the showroom for a number of reasons, chief among which is the dual-motor powertrain's output.

Spied testing in Germany with little in the way of camo, the Macan EV develops 603 horsepower and more than 738 pound-feet (1,000 Nm) at full song. It also sports a near-perfect weight distribution. According to Macan chassis manager Dominik Hartmann, the numbers are 48 percent up front and 52 percent out back.

Hartmann also confirmed superior maneuverability due to 15 percent more steering angle compared to the internal combustion-engined Macan, along with 5 degrees of rear-wheel steering at speeds below 50 miles per hour (80 kilometers per hour). Two-valve dampers are in the offing as well, dampers that lower the sport utility vehicle at high speed to maximize driving range.

From the latest spy pics, the Macan EV clearly shows a coupe-like roofline for – obviously enough – better aero. Based on the Premium Platform Electric developed by Volkswagen Group marques Porsche and Audi, the zero-emission crossover boasts an electronic locking diff at the rear. Compatible with 800-volt fast chargers, the Macan EV will be offered with a 100-kWh battery across the board. No standard- and long-range nonsense here, thankfully! Said battery – which integrates 12 prismatic cells – and the aforementioned electric architecture enable a charging rate of 270 kW.

Pictured with a panoramic sunroof and five-spoke wheels boasting a staggered tire setup, the Macan EV also features a rear spoiler that extends from the liftgate under certain operating conditions. To be joined by the Cayenne EV and a three-row electric utility vehicle whose name is a mystery for the time being, the Macan EV does have the makings of a commercial hit.

The 718 series will go electric as well. Given time, Zuffenhausen's favorite son is expected to get rid of every combustion-engined vehicle in the lineup. The last one standing will be the Neunelfer, which is getting hybrid assistance for the 992.2 mid-cycle refresh.

Over in the United States, deliveries of the 992.1 911 totaled 5,650 units in the first half of 2023. The 718 moved 2,276 examples of the breed. As for the real stars of the sales report, Porsche recorded 14,360 deliveries for the Macan and 8,911 deliveries for the Cayenne.

Not surprising in the least, Porsche's most affordable production model at press time is the Macan. Pricing kicks off at $60,900 for the base specification, which belts out 261 horsepower and 295 pound-feet (400 Nm) from the Volkswagen Group's EA888 turbo'd I4.

At the other end of the spectrum, the Macan GTS can be yours for a cool $86,800 sans destination charge. This variant uses a 2,894-cc V6 with two spinny lads. The displacement indicates a detuned Audi RS 4 Avant engine, with the Porker belting out 434 horsepower compared to 444 horsepower for the Audi wagon.

It was difficult to top the current model in terms of styling, but this one clearly does.

Front looks generic and Tesla like.

And that new dash on these EVs is hideous with that cut-out.

Much rather have the old ICE Macan.
