EQS [Renders] 2020 Mercedes-Benz EQS

The Mercedes-Benz EQS (V297) is a battery electric full-size luxury liftback car produced by Mercedes-Benz Group and part of the Mercedes-Benz EQ family. It was released in September 2021 in Germany and the fourth quarter of 2021 in the United States.
^ Daimler's media site labels it "EQS". Here it's a bit larger. :)

@Jimmy, so from what I understand we are facing an epochal turning point with the advent of the EQS class because after over 50 years it will replace the new s-class, and more importantly the new EQS will have a more sporty with sleek lines, that is completely different from the s class

Indeed, that is my perception as well. Should the EQS be favorably received by the luxury segment target market, it may be the epochal automobile that will define the category for many years to come. My initial skepticism has since evolved into excitement. The EQS promises to be an immensely interesting vehicle.

While randomly browsing an automotive vlog, I came across a readers comment from someone who had recently spotted an EQS prototype at a charging station near Stuttgart. It was mentioned that the EQS is a very large automobile, estimating a length of easily over 5000mm (and probably closer to 5100mm) and a width similar if not greater to that of the new W/V223 S-Class cars. Relatively tall as well, which is deceptive considering the cars' rakish greenhouse. The car was otherwise very heavily foiled and cladded, leaving details effectively hidden from sight.

How does Audi with E-Tron have a frunk, but BMW and MB with dedicated EV platform don't ?
Because the e-tron could fit a V6 engine and with just the electric motor there would be lots of wasted space in the front without the frunk. As far as I can tell Mercedes decided to give the EQS a front which is low and small to make the passenger room bigger with a footprint which isn't too large and to imrove the aerodynamics. Makes perfect sense to me, I don't think a frunk is worth making the car bigger.

Handelsblatt just published an update. :)

Stuttgart. In the coming year, Daimler wants to start producing three new all-electric models at various locations around the world. For the first half of the year the Mercedes-Benz flagship EQS is scheduled to start in the new “Factory 56” in Sindelfingen, followed by the EQE in the second half of the year - first in Bremen and a little later in Beijing, as Daimler announced on Monday. The third model to be launched in 2021 is the EQB compact car, which will be built in Kecskemét, Hungary, and also in Beijing.

For two other models - the SUV variants from EQS and EQE - Daimler is planning to start production in Tuscaloosa in the USA in 2022. That would mean eight all-electric vehicles from the EQ family. Production is already running for three models: for the EQC since 2019 in Bremen and Beijing, for the people carrier EQV since this year in Vitoria, Spain. The compact car EQA is already being built in Rastatt, but will not be introduced to the market until early 2021.
