EQS [Renders] 2020 Mercedes-Benz EQS

The Mercedes-Benz EQS (V297) is a battery electric full-size luxury liftback car produced by Mercedes-Benz Group and part of the Mercedes-Benz EQ family. It was released in September 2021 in Germany and the fourth quarter of 2021 in the United States.
I really don't see what is the beauty about having the frontlights be a single line of light. I have seen a couple of EQCs on the street and didn't find that particular design feature nice at all.

I actually liked the front of EQC @n8ght

Agree on this.

This seems to be becoming a bit of a trend - Golf 8 also has a version with a light strip.

I wonder if there is any technical reason for that, or is it only a gimmick. (Or am I becoming older and old-fashioned).

It seems to be a trend with electric cars. They started out mostly with light bar designs to distinguish themselves from the ICE car manufacturers, but today most new electric cars have light bar designs and I can’t say it’s that good, or it achieved its purpose well since they look quite the same, you can’t really make a horizontal bar in a 1000 different ways. Even Tesla with the Cybertruck, it’s actually surprising why the other models are more traditional looking. With the EQC my main problem is actually the main headlight unit and the DRL in it, it’s so soft compared to other models, like even the A class is better with its sharper headlights. This one on the other hand seems to be the first pretty good execution, where they have both a light bar and a quite aggressive overall silhouette. Hopefully we will see it soon

I like the lightbars actually. They provide that stylistic element of "stance and width", somehow making automobiles appearing more "planted". But basically, they are little more than gimmicks.

According to the MB-passion-blog it is understood, that the upcoming EQS is not going to share its infotainment with the 223-series. A new version of myMBUX will have its premiere. One massive screen across the entire dashboard will find its way into the new EQS. The driver AND co-driver can adapt this particular screen to their personal needs. A new AI-version completes the whole.

The spy shots didn’t show much difference in the UX layout so I wonder what’s this new solution. Also given that there is only 4-6 months between the presentation of the two cars I wonder how much better can it be over the S class solution

Hmmm, that's hard to believe based on how MB has been sharing a unique interior design across its entire portfolio and the spy pics of the EQS, which show an interior clearly based on the W223.

Yes I know these spy-shots. But these information are not only shared by the MB-Passion-blog, but also in an official statement by Daimler. In this case Sajjad Kahn Daimler's VP for Digitial Mobility gave a hint:

"[...] And we will offer our best software solution to date in the new EQS. The underlying AI is revolutionary, and the learning system beyond that is more impressive with every use. [...] This approach also opens up unbelievable creative scope, which appeal to me personally as a programmer."

"Across the whole width of the interior, the driver and front passenger are shown exactly what they want and need in the relevant situation. "

Maybe they release a solution which is like the EQS concept with a beamer. Or they increased the size of the lightbar behind the dashboard and removed the LED-strip in favor of a big screen just like the Mercedes-Maybach-6 concept.

Thank you for your information and glad you posted but I just can't see it happening.
Would be great to have it different but no sign of that thus far.

I certainly hope for the Mercedes fans that this is not the actual car. Glasshouse is totally out of the proportion with the lower part of the car.

There's something going on with that 2nd pic. It looks sleeker than that. I've seen the exterior now and I think people will be pleasantly surprised but challenged by the design at the same time. It's not as bad as I was fearing but it wasn't love at first sight either. It looks sportier than I was expecting and has some body sculpting (not all flat surfaces) but the non traditional proportions are still giving me pause. The daylight opening is exaggerated and I have to imagine that looks cool from the inside but it caught me off guard in the quick glance that I got.

This still continues to be the most telling spy pic imo, even though it was one of the earliest:

If you have already seen the car, how would you compare it to the w223?

Haven't seen the inside, but the exterior doesn't look like the W223 at all. The headlights have the same 3 dots inside the cluster and the bumpers has the same du rigueur vents and scoops that is consistent with other Mercedes, but that's where the similarities end. It's designed to futuristic and sleek whereas the S-class is looking as formal as ever. Also the ends of the car are very smooth. Some will say it looks like a lightly used bar of soap I'm sure, but I think that's one of the cooler aspects.

After having been so skeptical at first, I'm now eagerly awaiting this cars' official presentation. Now, I'm becoming increasingly confident that the EQS' design, inside and out, will impress large numbers of those who were/are skeptical (like myself).

It would've been better off looking like the concept but at the same time I'm no longer worried that it will look cheap next to the Lucid Air sedan. Kind of interesting though, the two sedans share a profile even though the details are quite different.
