I I think this car once totally revealed will look much better than we all expected.

Perhaps this will also be the case regarding AMGs' GT 4 door liftback. A pleasant surprise under that swirly-foiled, what I perceive as so far ungainly (despite the cladding plateau having been long discarded), rump would certainly be nice.

I hope that means CLS450 with 367hp (362 in the U.S.) and CLS53 with 489hp (483hp in the U.S.)!!! I can't believe there will be a CLS63, but Mercedes is greedy so yeah I might believe it. E63 and CLS63 have co-existed for years. That said, the AMG GT4 (or whatever it is) should have about 650hp and be a more focused experience, lighter weight in order to justify it's existence IMO. 800hp with the electrics attached.

CLS43 and CLS500 appear to be the same car depending on how you dress it? There isn't room for both. There should be a CLS560 in the spot of the CLS500, with a proper V8, but it's all too confusing at this point: CLS450, 43, 500, 53, 63? WTF.

In the United States, the standard powertrain should be Mercedes’ new turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6. Above this is expected to sit a new Mercedes-AMG CLS53 also packing an inline-6 albeit with a high-powered electric motor to boost output to V-8-like levels.

There won’t be a direct replacement for AMG’s existing CLS63, as the Affalterbach tuner is planning its own fastback sedan previewed by the GT concept unveiled at the 2017 Geneva auto show. We've also spied prototypes for this model which is tipped to be on sale in mid-2018. Although prototypes for AMG's sedan resemble the CLS, they have a lower and wider stance along with unique designs for the lights and grille.

Look for the redesigned CLS to also arrive in showrooms during 2018. A reveal has been confirmed for this month's 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show.

OK I believe I have seen enough of the spy shots to have a final opinion.

It will be a pretty car. No doubt. But at the same time it won't be a big enough bump from the previous generation which we normally expect from a full 7-year generation redesign (side by side comparison attached). Basically it won't stand out from the rest of the MB lines like the previous 2 CLS's used to do.

But hey, it's still a pretty car for sure.

I do like how this model combines the newer design language with the combination of the older original body style/lines of the previous language that was there from 2012.

That's certainly the case for the C class and absolutely definitely the case for the E class. Honestly the last E class was a pretty unattractive car, but this generation E is much much better.

Compared to the above, the improvement the CLS has seen for C257 is relatively modest. And I think the design team went with "safety" instead of thinking out of the box a bit, which the original C219 and C218 embodied during their times.

Yes, AMGs' 4 door liftback coupe (X290) is the one that many are waiting for. It remains so heavily swirly-foiled, that it is difficult to know just what to expect with regard to details, sculpturing, side glass graphics, etc.

I would think that the foil will start coming off within the next month or twos' time.
