X5 [Renders] 2018 BMW X5 (G05)

The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions.

It seems to me or is it the first time that BMW is putting emphasis in marking that the X5, X3, X7, RR Cullinam are now if very capable vehicles in OFF ROAD?

From what you can see, they are!!, that photo and the one is jumping are great, any day in the Dakar.

It can also be to mark well the line between the X2, X4, X6 etc. that are seen for the "track" and the rest as multipurpose this time for real.

Cool commercial. Looks very good for now with the cami.

Thank you! That makes my day.
I am probably one of the biggest X5 fans with four X5s in my stable, beside other BMWs.
One of my lease is due in October. May have to wait few months to get the new one.

Not wanting to be a wet blanket but unfortunately what's being shown in the off road scenes isn't particularly rough. Driving in dunes isn't really hard-core off-roading and what we're being shown here is actually the limit of what the X5 will be capable of - and it's more than enough for most of its customers!
If a Toyota Land Cruiser is a "very capable" off-roader then this new X5 is leagues away from that. Even the new Discovery - which is considerably less rugged than its forebear - is significantly more capable off road than this new X5 will be. That said, being very capable off-road isn't what an X5 is meant to be all about, no?

All the same, it does appear that the new X5 will be more usable in off-tarmac scenarios - more than likely due to full air-suspension fitment - than its predecessor and this will no doubt broaden its appeal.

In some parts it will likely be taken off road every now and then, but the vast majority will never ever touch anything but tarmac.
Precisely. Even down here in a land of limitless off-road destinations very few Land Rover Discoverys (by way of example) ever see a good foray off the black stuff. And, even then, when some have done so they have been beset by reliability issues like failing air suspension, seizing handbrakes and blown turbos. So, most - if not all - X5s will see nothing more rugged than a gravel road down here, let alone in developed countries.

This is not to say that the X5's enhanced capability is hence irrelevant, rather, the prospect of being able to venture into harder-to-reach destinations certainly does broaden the X5's appeal from a lifestyle perspective. And that's exactly why BMW are promoting this new-found capability.

BMW is putting emphasis on marketing them as off road. Land Rovers will still leave them behind when things get tough. I don't have a problem with this, mind you, just remember these are carefully crafted videos.

EDIT: I see martinbo responded along the same vein, with perhaps a better worded answer. Carry on. :)

Here is a tip so people stop speculating and making up stories. First week in June. No pre-drives. We will have some upclose studio footage with the car and a quick review of the new features. First drives in the fall.

Does the first week of June start tomorrow (until Sunday) or have to wait for the first 'full' week ;) ?

That was a very short lifecycle for the F15. It grew on me a lot during these years. However, the D pillar still looks weird to me.

F15 is a stop gap car. I don't think BMW has ever done this. The new X5 will be back with a vengeance :D
And yeah, the D pillar ruins the entire car. Sad.

that list makes me hungry.

Good. I hate sensated. It doesn't look nor feel like leather. Both the G30 and G01 are better off without it.

It doesn't bother me to be honest. It's neither here nor there. But the stitching that Sensatec brings does add another element to the interior.

But clearly Sensatec is not as successful at emulating leather as Mercedes Artico.
