Range Rover Sport SDV6 Review

No quite, I'm heading up tomorrow and depending on the price they offer for mine will determine whether I'll do the deal for an HSE but I'm not wanting it till Feb/March as I'll drive the brother Porsche which ever one he ends up getting as he has his eye on a couple of Boxsters and a 911 that's mint.

Well she's ordered, HSE in Marianna Black with Ebony/Lunar interior. Now on the look for Boxsters and 911s. lol

Congrats, mate! What happened with your Cayenne?

They took her down to their Prestige showroom who gave me a price I was willing to accept so she'll be gone at the start of the week which means finding a sportscar top of our list as I'll be without a car until then. Of course there's the wife's X1 and the son's Polo along with the work's van but I'd like to have something I can jump into without having to ask if someone else needs it.

The sport is quite nice.. the normal one is horrendous looking.

I liked the old sport to.

It looks good from the front, OK from the side and awful from the rear but like the 911 it's one of those models that it's customers happen to love so rocking the boat isn't an option. Just look how long it took Jag to modernize it's range because of fear it would unset existing customers.

So they launched the RR Sport at JIMS 2013 today. Sat inside, did the Naas-number (lick, scratch, sniff, knock, feel, wiggle) and took a good moment to take it all in.

Very, very impressive. It felt thoroughly proper on the inside and looks splendid. Want.

Not that I was in the market for the big Range Rover but I personally prefer the interior styling of the Sport better. It was very much a toss up between either getting a 3 series Touring, getting an X3 or waiting for the X5, the RR Sport wasn't even on my radar until that phone call but what swayed it very much in favor for the RR Sport was it's ability to lower it's suspension 50mm when stationary, this allowed the son to get into the car himself something he suggested with in the X3 and definitely couldn't have done in the X5.

To convince myself it was worth getting the HSE over the basic SE I specced an X5 M/Sport 40d to the same as my RR Sport HSE and it would have ended up £4K more so I'm happy with my decision, admittedly the X5 would have been a bit quicker but as I said above it was a no go.

We meaning myself and brother are looking at an alternative to a Porsche 911 which might keep old Klier happy, will keep you posted if the deal comes off but if it does we should have it before christmas. ;)

Well the deal is done for the 911 alternative, the main issue with the Porsche was fitting the son's chair behind the front seats, no matter how hard I tried it was just too big to fit through the gap so have went for a Bimmer which has 4 doors and is quicker than most 911s in acceleration......... any ideas Klier. ;)

Should be here early December all being well.

I forgot to mention the stereo for those of us who are into our music. The brand used is Meridian and according to the website it has 19 speakers placed all around the car kicking out a total of 825 watts and frankly as someone who use to sell car audio equipment many years ago and has always kitted out his cars when necessary this thing is in another universal compared to other factory supplied kit. The definition on the bass is incredible and the clarity and sound staging has to be heard to be believed, there is proper 3 dimensional staging going on.

How's the media interface? From what I hear it's not so state of the art on the previous gen.

It's old school compared to iDrive and MMI in that it doesn't have a proper menu driven system but it's surprisingly easy to use. The bluetooth connect deserves praise as it's extremely quick and easy to pair with no drop off in sound as can often be the case, something I've experienced with Audi's system. Satnav appears to be TomTom and works well, I used it the night I had the demo out and took me to where I requested but it slower to recalculate compared to the latest aftermarket Satnavs.

M5 or M6 Gran Coupe.

Knowing the deals that BMW are having to give on these at the moment you probably got a hefty discount.

It's an M5 though I can't disclose the deal because after the deal was done they have since re-nagged so we are in talks to see how to sort out this f#@k they've made. It was a good one that's for sure. ;)

Hopefully we can get close to the original deal as it was their mistake but as they say the deal isn't struck until money changes hands and unfortunately that hadn't happened.

Deckhook and Zonda - trust me, it is ARCHAIC!

We will talk again Deckhook when you've had to live with it a few months ;-)

You need to remember I've lived with a similar system in the XF so I know how it works and what to expect. For me all I want from any system is good tunes, decent radio, a sat nav that gets me there and little else. To be honest with you I rate the setup in the Cayenne worse than the RR Sport.

Anyway it's the driving experience that's most important and in this the car delivers in buckets.

Did you order or were you just checking them out on the website?

Just checking them out on the website. I recently put a deposit on the first allocation of a Macan Turbo from a local dealer that we worked with to purchase the wife's Boxster a few years back.

The Macan is going to be something else, can't wait to read your review.
