Mercedes really needs to re-design the G from the ground up, on its own dedicated platform. The RR can be their starting point. Make it just as capable, but just as unique as the current G, but dripping with modern tech and price it accordingly. Sooner or later Mercedes is going to have to face the G question, terminate or complete re-design. Bring the design up to date, but keep is instantly recognizable as a G. See 911, Phantom, Range Rover for examples.

Here's an MT review form a while back.

R&T as well.

On the USA configurator, the V8 HSE (most bells and whistles) that I worked up with other options was right around $100K. That is pretty much what I expected. Even though it's in a different class, you can get close to $100K in a well equipped Cayenne.

Considering what a huge market the UAE is for the G Klasse, that is quite a shake up. MB practically made the G65 specifically for this market and just to see the ruler in a Range Rover is definitely going to boost demand in the UAE. Excellent marketing by RR.

Pretty sure he still got the G. He loves it. This is just an addition to the fleet. Wondering why he doesn't drive anymore. But at least he rides shotgun (it's an Arab thing:) ).

Oh give over. So even though you're "sure" it's great, you think British journalists are biased even if they agree with you.

What a pathetic attitude.

Overlooked this post.

Betty, I don't know why you're so defensive about the British press. They sometime do 'gush' about about 'British' cars. So while I don't doubt the car is a very good car, I'd like to read some non British reviews to see if a balanced take is being presented and all the pros and cons looked at.

The same is probably true of the press of most car producing nations. The Australian press at one stage tried to have us believe the Commodore was a world class product worthy of mention in the same breath as the Mercedes E-class and BMW 5-series.

So that's all I was implying. It wood be good to read a wider spread of reviews before believing that the new Range Rover is the greatest thing since sliced bread!.

BTW the only thing 'pathetic' is how you consistently choose to respond so aggressively towards any post you take issue with. It's an internet car forum...lighten up.

Not defensive. I'd be the same whether it was people claiming the German press were biased, or the Dutch, or the Spanish. It's utter nonsense.

Now if you had written this in the first place then I wouldn't have had an issue with your post. This seems a balanced viewpoint. But you didn't. You wrote "I'll wait for some non British reviews thank you", which is basically saying all British reviews are useless and have no merit, despite the fact that you probably agree with them that it's a good car!

Then say that then instead of dismissing a whole review just because it's British!

It is an internet car forum, so you have to be prepared to have your viewpoint challenged.

And aggressive? You dismissed a whole review just because they happened to be British. That IS pathetic.

Any press opinion is almost always based upon how the car behaves or will behave on roads in their country that's it the review is a first drive in another country. Of course these will differ from country to country because not all road surfaces are the same and nor is what each individual reviewers requirements from a car the same either.

It's much better to take what's said onboard and wait for more opinions (especially ones closer to home). Personally I think British reviews are top notch not because I'm British but because they look beyond purely facts and figures and make a judgement on everything.

Firstly, please cut the personal insults, secondly Mr.Mercedes is saying that some car journalists do tend to give a more positive review of cars from their own country. Mr.Mercedes then gave another example of Australian journalists giving overly biased review of locally made cars.
