Discuss PS5 vs Xbox Series X

Yes just like apple, but it’s a vibe.
People don’t get the vibe, it ain’t always about performance.
Same with cars if it doesn’t feel right to you and don’t appeal who cares if it’s better.

perfect example are Mclarens, most likely faster than their lambo and Ferrari counterparts but who gives a f#ck!

The difference is bigger on Series X vs PS5. Objectively the Series X has the tech edge, much more so than the PS4 did over the Xbox One. The differences will be more noticeable than it was in the PS4 gen. Not to mention the Series X comes in a smaller package that doesn't look like a cheap 1998 router.

And I am saying this as a Nintendo fan. I have no emotional interest in either of the big boys. I like both Xbox and PS, and I will buy both day one.

Developers tend to develop for the lowest common denominator and don't optimise for a specific console

While true, developers optimise for every platform, and multiplats will show differences that are probably bigger than what we've seen on Xbox One X vs PS4 Pro.

@LaArtist better to just keep it with cars buddy. You're rambling nonsense.

Games looked very alike on the PS4 and Xbox One X. Differences were only seen if you zoomed in 200-400x.

LOL no. I have both, and Xbox One X plays games natively 4K, with more added effects.
In car terms, you're comparing a C43 with a C63. Big difference!

That is true. MS result went to town with the specs. The Series X is very powerful and the way that it's been packaged in a tower is impressive.

Right now I am leaning towards the Xbox as I haven't owned one since xbox 1. Hopefully online services won't be extortionate for either console.

Eitherway i am super excited and can't wait to try them both.

The LG C9 OLED is the TV i will likely buy because my current TV does not have HDR or G-Sync.

To be frank, the Nintendo Switch has tempted me because of its high fun factor.

Rockstar Games has f#cked up big f#cking time in not releasing GTA 6 for PS5.

They are milking everything they can from GTA 5 and I wouldn't be surprised if they are paying YouTube to keep the likes higher than the dislikes.

For comparison, here's the same trailer posted in the Playstation channel and look how the dislikes easily overtake the likes.

Both amazing consoles. I prefer the design of the PS5 and think it will sell very well initially but I reckon the Xbox will win over PlayStation this generation. Microsoft is playing the long game.

MKBHD has guessed that sony will price the PS5:

Digital version: $399
Disc version: $499

This is plausible. Sony and MS will want us to buy the digital versions and probably consider the disc versions necessary evils.

The customer life time value of the digital versions will be greater as any games will have to be purchased through the PSN store.

This is usually more expensive than buying from a store or eBay. For example, COD WW2 can be purchased for £5 on eBay but cost £54 on in thr PSN store. Sony and MS also likes that digital copies can't be sold or passed on to friends.

Online subscriptions, Season passes and DLC will define the next gen consoles and be huge sources of revenue for MS and Sony.

Personally I sill buy a disc version so that I can occasionally buy UHD movies or games on eBay for the price of a Starbucks coffee. Disc versions will likely have better resale value too.

Latest prices i heard are much higher for the playstation. Sony alluded to that but that might be just for f#cking with microsoft.

I'll get the disc version. I can't see it being much over £500 here, though I think a price tag somewhere between £500-600 would be justified.

There will e different routes for playing with pricing psychology.

Microsoft and Sony will be able to play around the monthly/yearly subscription costs for live services to either make their consoles appear to offer more value or cheaper to own.

I'm extremely interested in the PS5 headset that will offer 3D object based audio. If it works as well as advertised and is priced correctly then it could become an effective eco-system handcuff like Apple's AirPods or Apple Watch.

August is the month when most big US retailers lock-in their buying for Thanksgiving/Black Friday. I suspect that the pricing for PS5 and Xbox Series X will be revealed or leak around then.

Here is a photoshop of an all-black variant that will be an absolute must for me.

Yay, now which one to get hmm
The PS5 is priced well but the price of some of the launch titles are horrific at £70. That's equivalent to 8 months of Xbox Gamepass which includes 100 of games, EA games and access to Microsoft's first-party from the day the release.

Sony has also hinted that some of their flagship titles will initially only be available digitally. Currently a disc drive is a necessary evil for Sony and MS. Over time, they will make it redundant by pricing subscriptions and digital games aggressively. The only meaningful reason to buy the disc version of the PS5 is for playing UHD Bluray movies as the medium offers superior sound quality than streaming.

Personally I will buy the Xbox Series X. Although it has a slightly edge over the PS5 in power and storage, the real clincher is Gamepass. The value of the subscription is too good to pass.

Not to mention, all (edit; almost all) Sony’s first party games announced arw PS4 crossplay. f#cking lame!!
And with PS+, you get to play old games nobody wants anymore. What a poor showing. Particularly the absolutely insane game prices of €80 (!!!) in the EU. What the actual F?!?

getting both still, but wow.

Yay, now which one to get hmm

For you it's easy, Series X with gamepass. Free Flight Simulator, free first party games, free EA games, etc. Much, much, much better deal.

Why would you get both when many big titles will offer cross-platform multiplayer. You won't have to choose either platforms in order to play with friends.

All the real big titles will be console exclusive. I can't help it. Sony Studio games are not magically going to appear on your gamepass. And vica versa.

This is a PS5 exclusive for instance (not crossplay with PS4 I believe, and definitely not on the Xbox:

4k 60 fps, Demon's Souls
