Porsche Slumps By Most on Record After Scaling Back EV Ambitions
Their current financial voes are existential. ICE and hybrid for the 7 seater is the right decision. Likewise ice flagship 718 successor will be easier to sell at a premium than ev variants.

You can't go all ev when there is a glut of unwanted Taycans on the used market.

Indeed, the political environment pertaining to electric mobility in the EU could not be more calamitous and hamfisted. And the automotive industry is having a very difficult time in attempting to navigate this swamp filled with sprawling regulation, broken political promises and inabilities to focus on big picture scenarios. I really don't know...but I have a suspicion that this current rejoicing regarding increased emphasis on ICE drivetrains is going to really bite German manufacturers in the ass in the longer run. Hopefully, for the sake of the already severely ailing German economy, I am wrong.

I faintly remember a fable I was told as a kid, it went something like this - an old man while on a walk at night, saw another man searching for something under the street light. When asked why, the guy said - he lost his wallet and was looking for it. So the old man decided to help look for it and asked how he lost it. The man pointed at a dark alley and said he tripped and fell in the alley and probably lost the wallet there, but since it was dark there, he decided to search under the street light!

That is what this reminds me of that. Porsche sales was down most in China (~30%). Most probably cause their EVs are not price competitive there (or anywhere for that matter). But instead of figuring a fix for that - how to make their EVs more price competitive, they are like, "oops, let us make more ICEV".

Anecdote - the roads here are suddenly filled with Taycans, they are every where - and almost all are the pre facelift ones! I am guessing they are flying off the used car lots where they are actually priced competitively. That should tell Porsche what the issue is.

2 year old, pre-owned Taycan 4S models with less than 30K kms on the odometers are being offered by authorized Porsche Centers here in northwestern Germany at +/- 60K Euros. Seems like a tremendous deal to me. Especially bearing in mind that a 100K km extended road test conducted a few years ago by AutoBild indicated nearly ZERO battery degradation when the test was concluded. The car was also otherwise rock solid. A proposition difficult to ignore for those shopping in that particular segment of the market IMHO.

I was in the market for a facelifted Taycan to replace my Macan Turbo. It's not likely to happen soon as my Macan is only 10-months old, but I'm always thinking about my next order. However, as time as progresses, it's getting increasingly likely I won't be replacing the Macan with a Taycan due to a selling price which is beyond the acceptable "Porsche tax".
