Golf [Official] Volkswagen Golf VII

Btw,

Small town of Reitz 50km from my hometown had their Big Maize Festival yesterday. Manufacturers displayed their cars, trucks, pick-ups and farm equipment.

So did VW and I had all the time in the world to scrutinize the iconic new generation. Lick, taste, touch, feel and visual. As we GCF'ers get all the 'under the skin' or 'skin deep' info first hand here it's easy to say: "The difference from previous to this new generation is just that! A new platform and tech under the skin."

Familiar good materials and familiar everything. Nothing surprized visually, it's like yesterdays car.

Then the SHOCKER! I went over to the TOYOTA stand and did what I was not suppose or intended to do. I sat in the new Toyota Auris.

Now I can't believe I (Naas) can, are able to or even dare saying this. It's in all honesty to myself and being a grown-up.
It's like getting into or rather fitting your first $25 000.00 tailor made Aramani Tux. The hugging seats, placement of the wheel in your hands, perfect ergonomics and switshgear also the great materials - perceived and tactile quality.

The Auris may be really ugly from the front but side and especially the rear is handsome.
Sorry, I can't get over the perfect driving position...as good as any BMW's. The car screams drive me please! from behind the wheel.

I will have the Auris over the new Golf any day.;) It's a GT86 luxury hatch and that describes the feel behind the wheel 100%

Did I just say that!? Maybe I must sign-off and have my head examined. Am I going bonkers, mad. senile!?:(

No, I am honest to myself and to you, my fellow mates and members. That's all:)

Go, try it for yourself.

Regards,

Naas.

No you don't have to get examined. I noticed lately, german cars (especially VW and A4) were overrated und japanese cars (especially Toyota/Lexus) were underrated by public/media.

Surely the Golf is Germanic and uber-comfortable aslo spaciouss - nothing wrong at all.

Just the Auris focuses on the driver and feels so correct behind the wheel so perfect, the front seats feels like Recaro's etc. If this is how the Auris feels, the new IS may just spell trouble for my o'l best friend and icon, the F30:unsure:

Both Toyota & Lexus certainly has a problem with front-end design. But just look at the new IS cabin, dash and driving/seating position (the orientation) is all focused for the purpose of driving pleasure. And it just does not seem fair to judge a book by it's cover just becuase I am and always will be a BMW guy and a German Car enthusiast at heart and in general. I for one HATE korean copy + paste styling and some Japanese brands do the same, yet....Rather then not "spite" yourself and stay away from the Lexus/Toyota test drive centers.;)

I went to sit in the new Golf and compare interior with the new Seat Leon. What a step up Seat has done compare to previous generation. Both Golf and Seat share the same hard and soft plastic in the same places. Both have hard plastic between the seats while its softer on the upper dashboard. There are some details which have better quality feel than the Seat but overall the build quality is about the same. Oh, the new Golf GTI configurator is up on their webpage..prices in Sweden seem to be about the same.

^The main negative I have towards the Seat is residuals, they are awful in the UK and I can't believe it's much different else where. On the latest the interior design and quality has improve beyond recognition but IMO it's still not quite Golf level and definitely well below the nice touches that makes the GTi so special.

I wasn't comparing with the GTI but if you compare with Golf versions within same versions as Seat the difference isn't earth shaking. Some minor details, thats all but hard plastic and soft plastic is the same. Considering how much you pay to get a Golf somethings must be different and I was expecting more.
Regarding resale value, considering how much cheaper it is to buy a Seat ,the problems isn't that of a big concern.

This might surprise you but I just configed both the Seat Leon FR (5dr) and Golf GT diesel (5dr) in manual 150hp trim with identical spec and the Golf ended up only £300 more expensive........... yeah I was shocked to discover this too. In the UK at least the Seat is not where you should put your hard earned cash.

Of course this might be different in your country as standard spec might vary there but I doubt when all things are considered that the Golf still isn't the wiser choice.

I've done the same and I can get 180 hp Seat Leon + much more equipment for less money than a 140 hp Golf in Sweden + same warranties etc. That's what I call a good deal.

Just some bits of information:

1. Dynaudio has been added as an option for standard Golfs
2. LED rear lights are now available across the model range as an option

LED rearlights should be standard, the make such a huge difference. Specially since VW standard rear lamps are so 90s.
