Must say that I LOVE that color.
That's the only thing to like. The F10/F11 (build quality, driving pleasure, the best 5-series ever build) and the G30/31 (design and refined driving pleasure) were the last ones 5 series to have. There is nothing to like about the G60/61; Drives like a MB and interior as well as exterior design is a complete let down.

Car and Driver recorded some impressive numbers in their testing of the 540i:

C/D TEST RESULTS
60 mph: 4.0 sec
100 mph: 10.2 sec
1/4-Mile: 12.5 sec @ 111 mph
130 mph: 18.2 sec
150 mph: 26.8 sec
Results above omit 1-ft rollout of 0.2 sec.
Rolling Start, 5–60 mph: 5.0 sec
Top Gear, 30–50 mph: 2.8 sec
Top Speed (gov ltd): 152 mph
Braking, 70–0 mph: 163 ft
Braking, 100–0 mph: 328 ft

C/D FUEL ECONOMY
Observed: 28 mpg
75-mph Highway Driving: 37 mpg
75-mph Highway Range: 580 mi

But they ragged on the rest of the car and said it was inferior to the new E besides the powertrain.

Well, certainly. Cause for sure the G30 5er was an example of well crafted interior. And I believe F10 was too back in the day.

Are you familiar with those? Just to read your views about how the G60 compares.

I'm familiar with the E60, F10, G30...The G30 is vastly superior to the G60, certainly in terms of obvious cost cutting. Hell, my G21 3er was vastly superior to the G60.

Apologies to those who have spent their hard earned cash or credit score to one, but I still can't stomach the G60's look. There are a few driving around in my town and they are now a frequent sight, although not a pleasant one.

How did you feel when the E60 was introduced?

Incomparable. The E60 is a design statement and a work of art by Chris Bangle, which could go back to the market as a new car right now (with a few minor updates).

Hell, I still twist my neck if I see an E60.
For G60 I twist my neck too, but the other way.

E60 on average is like 700 kg lighter than an i5

I never really understood why people didn't like the look of the E60 when it was new.
I think the only thing that doesn't really work are the little eyelashes on the headlamps. Otherwise its a fine looking car.

The G60 certainly is not that. Its just a big, ugly, brutish thing.

I didn't like the E60 at first, but over the years it grew to me. Heck, it doens't feel like 4 generations old, but merely like it's just the previous generation. The E62 feels even better!

Bangle's design did work, in the end. Also, the E60 has all the fundamental dimensions right.

Ugh - the E60. Inside and out, you can keep it. I didn't want one when it was new back in the day, whereas I most certainly did the E39 and E34.

I have this wonderful book on my coffee table:

It's a photographic study of significant and iconic pre-millennium car designs (the BMW E60 is dated as 2003) and in which the E60's design is lauded. So, what do I know?

All I know is what looks good to me and the E60 just doesn't.

I didn’t ask you…

The E60/61 was such a design masterpiece and sometimes I’d really like to have one or my old one back. The F10/11 is a lot more elegant and prettier but not as exiting as the E60 Design.

I think the G60/G61 needs a lot of getting used to.

Hey man, how about that review of the G60?

Eager to read a more detailed review from an actual owner.

I'll do it, definitely. And the C-Class, too. Just so busy at the moment. Got back from a 4,500km driving holiday to Greece last night, and I start work again this afternoon. I'm also about to apply for my eldest son's new passport which is quite time consuming.

I hope you had a great time. I chose the island of Tinos this summer, and not one day did we not have a wind of 7 Beaufort. We traveled light, opting for the wife's Yaris instead of my untrustworthy E39 and it was a good idea.

It always baffles me how big European cars appear in mainland Europe, especially while navigating around small old towns.
