Fully agree on the damm rearlights, just terrible. Front is ok, bar the horrible hood shut line.
In the end though, the Merc has some ugly desing details, the Bimmer however is fundamentally wrong with the stance and proportions, which is even worse. (And both with so much black plastic in the rear bumper)

Sadly, with Audi giving unremarkable cars, and Volvo, Jag and Maserati abandoning this segment; both Merc and BMW won't feel any pressure do deliver better looking cars.

The bottom line is neither brand seems to have a good looking design theme right now.

Which, together with the silly price increases across every brand, is making it really hard for me to chose my next car.

True, the E class has nothing a simple facelift can't fix.
