Some very good moving shots with narrative description, the front fender is two colors I think.

ICE cars are dying. The new 520i is heavier than the outgoing 540i. The 540i will no longer be avaiable. It’s BEV equivalent is the i5 40 which weigh 400kg more. :(

What’s redeeming is that the G30 LCI is probably peak BMW saloon in exterior design, cabin, quality, handling and ride.

I am sure many of that many people will change their mind once they see the car IRL

And many of them will have had their judgment clouded by the excitement of laying eyes on the fresh new model for the first time, and possibly the glitz and glamour of the setting: the flawless paintjob, the big wheels and clean tires, the sharp DRLs and glowing grille, the shiny gloss black elements, the chunky bodywork. Let alone the brand new scent, the tactility of new shapes and textures, the colorful ambient lightning, if they get a chance to hop inside...

All of that sensory experience of actually interacting with the car from a close distance or from the inside is arguably really the only thing that matters in the first place. However if we see cars not just as cosy people-hauling devices but almost as pieces of art or at least very advanced design, which in fact most car brands have strived to become since the dawn of the automobile and some including BMW have gotten very good at, then we have likely acquired a refined perception of the key design elements (stance, proportions, lines and shapes, colors and textures...) that goes beyond the superficial, and we are entitled to hold a newly released model to those high standards the brand got us used to.

Me personally ain't gonna change my mind when I'll see it IRL. I completely disliked the 8GC, 4 coupe and the 7er when I saw them released, and I remained with the same feeling after I saw them IRL.
It will be the same with this 5er. I don't like it in pictures? Even less IRL.

What I hate the most about this new 5-series is how BMW is fast becoming the Netflix of cars and going way too f#cking woke. Launching the BEV versions first and talking about vegan leather... Oh please, f#ck off BMW. Just f#ck off.

BMW. The Ultimate Virtue Signaling Machine.
Mercedes-Benz is doing the same. It’s a current hype.

Indeed. The airbag cover on the steering wheel was made of leather in the previous version. Now it’s plastic.
The airbag cover on the G60 looks like it has been borrowed this part from the I20 iX instead of covering it up with leather like the current G70 7er and i7. Which is a coincidence with the latest W214 due to a fact that the airbag cover on the new E is also made of plastic like EQS, EQE, C, GLC and models below. While the W223 S and W167 GLE are still keeping the leather on their airbag covers.

These are one of the little details that BMW and Mercedes are purposefully cheapening up with their core products (middle children): 5er, i5, E and EQE.

What bothers me most is, that the self-proclaimed S class EQS hasn’t got a leather airbag cap. By the way, the previous W213 E class had a plastic airbag cover as well.

Agreed. Like why is it so difficult for Mercedes to apply a leather airbag cap on the self-proclaimed electric S-Class. Also, the steering wheels on the W214 are exactly the same style as W213 facelift, but Mercedes is too lazy to upgraded from plastic to leather caps for the latest generation (at least to match and be in line the W223).

The biggest problem with this car is that it looks like a hatchback converted into a sedan. The back looks like it was added later. It looks very disproportionate when viewed from the diagonal and profile and is not fluid. From the front, it looks like a crossover. Creating an EV in an ICE-powered car was not the right choice. We realized that Mercedes was heading in the right direction. BMW has sacrificed two of its most important models in this philosophy.

Looking great... As I said, the Irl pictures will approve. All that was needed was some time to digest...that's all folks.

Its evident this car is ground breaking design....exciting and still solid. I'm now more eager to see this IRL than I was with the G70

The rake of the front end makes it look FWD from some angles.

I know that pedestrian and crash regulations have a negative impact on car design, but why are cars getting ridiculously heavy. The 4 cylinder 520i is only 25kg lighter than the M5 CS which has a V8 and AWD. It’s absurd. Can someone elaborate on this please?

They can't. The only thing they are able to say is is how good this car will be IRL, and what modern breakthrough design this is.
In the end, is just a crap of design together with the 8GC, 1, 2GC, Mercedes EQE, EQS, and so on.

Everything is far better in the flesh. Even the quality. Sparse and minimalist from a design perspective but the details come from the i7. Register at your own region(Europe) and experience for yourself.

520i is 100kg lighter than M5 CS and BMW claimed that was 75kg lighter than an equivalent M5 Comp, so I don't think the CS's weight is any kind of benchmark. The more telling figure is the 115kg more than the outgoing 520i, to which I'd suggest the hybrid system and the additional size probably contribute.
