I believe the party-spoiler for BMW was the Tesla Model S. BMW have invested billions in their i program with the i3 and the hybrid i8, having the self esteem that they are two years ahead of all the established competitors......... but suddenly a new boy comes and steals the show. The i3 and i8 lost their sex appeal in a minute and all these billions went to waste.
I don't know if Model S is the reason - i3 and Model s were all in complete different segments. But the end result is the same - BMW leadership got chicken feet, lost Diess, fools like Frölich and Kruger took over, they sat on the ass. And now you see these mediocre monstorities.

But then again, you never know, maybe i5 will be a sales rockstar, unlike rest of the i crap.

Can you provide a bit more insight into this @Sunny? Who is Diess and what happened at BMW?

Now ex VW CEO - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbert_Diess. He was an exec at BMW before VW, and responsible for the i project.

Rest would be speculation, but I am guessing the board picked Kruger over Diess to replace Norbert Reithofer as CEO in 2015 and Diess left or maybe Diess left first and BMW picked Kruger after. Anyway, he joined VW and became CEO later.

And was sacked by VW because he made many mistakes.
Of course it was lucky for BMW to get rid of that guy in time, or rather a good managerial decision, hurt the giant VW, imagine BMW...whatever it would have been, it's a "trial and error" guy.

Seen the G60e again today. Struck by its apparent Saab-Ness especially in its profile.
Understandable if it was designed by a Swede. But its designed by a Dane. So go figure.

It'll still drive better than the Merc, LOL

Besides, you MB fans are all awefully vocal here. But if that has to be done to make you feel better about a f'ing 2023 car without electrification, I guess I understand ;) You're still in the "I want a diesel" mindset
That’s a dumb thing to say. I’ve driven both of the last gen and I can vouch that the E drove significantly better than the 5. The 5 in sport mode felt like it was on speed. Really uncomfortable and shifts were awful
