Next-Gen BMW M5 Looks Aggressive In Rendering Based On Recent Spy Shots

Will this be the ultimate performance sedan?

The next-generation BMW M5 is still under development, as the latest spy shots from a couple of days ago still show a heavily camouflaged sedan doing the rounds at the Nurburgring.

However, that hasn’t stopped internet-famous car designer X-Tomi from imagining what the next iteration of BMW’s performance sedan could look like, taking inspiration from the images we published as the work week drew to a close.

With styling cues borrowed from the X5 M and X6 M, X-Tomi’s rendering shows a bright red M5 sitting on signature black M wheels and wearing an X-shaped front end that incorporates a black grille with a red outline.

The hood looks very similar to that used on the M4 coupe and the sensor for the radar-guided cruise control sits in the lower part of the front bumper, which is a much better placement than BMW used on the regular 5 Series, where there was an attempt to integrate it in the double-kidney grille, but it’s hard not to notice it once you get a glimpse of it.

The front fenders are also wider than on the run-of-the-mill 5 Series, which is to be expected, considering the M5 will most certainly have wider wheels, as well as beefier brakes.

With this being a fan rendering, some unknowns remain, such as the powertrain that will motivate the seventh-generation BMW M5. Currently, the Bavarian performance sedan is powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that makes 617 horsepower and 553 pound-feet (750 Newton-meters) of torque in Competition trim.

Rumors say that the next-generation M5 will use the hybrid setup of the XM SUV, so a twin-turbo V8 and a single electric motor that make a combined 644 hp and 590 lb-ft in the base variant and 738 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque in the XM Red Label.

This information hasn’t been confirmed, but we’re pretty sure that BMW will try to one-up the current-gen M5, as well as the electric i5 M60 which packs a dual-motor setup making 590 hp and 549 lb-ft.

As always, we’d like to know what you think about this, so head over to the comments section below to give us your thoughts.

That's much more aggressive. Depends if you like that!

I asked ChatGPT to create a "quick 'n dirty"
jerman-car - like marketing post, highlighting the revolutionary design of the new 5-Series, saying that it is a much better offering than the E-Class.

This is what I got:

Introducing the All-New BMW 5-Series: Where Innovation Meets Perfection.

Experience automotive excellence with the revolutionary design of the All-New BMW 5-Series. Its sleek silhouette, cutting-edge technology, and unmatched performance redefine the luxury sedan. Leave the Mercedes E-Class in the dust and embrace a driving experience that sets a new benchmark for greatness.

Dare to be different. Choose the All-New BMW 5-Series – where innovation meets perfection.
Now you're typing the right words buddy!

Its wondrous how nobody could actually give a decent answer to my previous post. Exactly what could be the reason? Hang on, it feels a bit speechless lol. Ohh...mb had to do this, that or the other.....heard it many times 🤣

The rubbish talkers here will carry on! It is plausable you guys...you know who you are lol.

I’ve owned out of the 4 diff gens of 5er including the G30, I’m trying my hardest to like this, but I can’t. Even if I liked the design, I wouldn’t be able to get over the size. It’s 1 inch short of the length of a G11 7 Series. Absolutely insane. Time to look for a clean E39 or E60.

You need to see it in person to make the defining decision. Photographs condense it more.

BMW 5 however doesn’t look like a BMW 5 anymore imo, it’s indeed on a different level than it’s predecessors, it’s lost the essence of what a 5er always has been; a rather sporty, elegant, slightly nimble sedan which is a joy to look at.

It'll still drive better than the Merc, LOL

Besides, you MB fans are all awefully vocal here. But if that has to be done to make you feel better about a f'ing 2023 car without electrification, I guess I understand ;) You're still in the "I want a diesel" mindset

The car looks great in person, it's just not the same as its predecessor, as is the case with, for example, the W214. It takes more time for the eyes and mind to adjust because the design is new and much more three-dimensional, and many details simply cannot be experienced properly through 2D photographs. For instance, even now, when I see the rear lights, especially the part that extends onto the side of the car, I'm not particularly impressed, and it doesn't appeal to me. However, in person, I really liked that specific part. It will be similar to many other recent BMW models: initially, it's like "hmm," but later on, it becomes "wow.":)

Klier, I love you too ;)

PS all W214 are electrified in some way or another. Since I'm not interested in EV, be that softcore or hardcore, I can't tell you the specifics. My diesel mindset won't change. Thank God we (still) live in a free country, so everyone can chose what fits his/hers personeel needs best. This afternoon I'll allow myself a nice wit biertje on a Antwerp terrace. Enjoy life, friends!
