@Merc1 .... I'm trying to figure out, do you like this new 5er or not? I think your first/one of your first posts after the launch (i could be wrong but if memory serves me right) was trying to justify what others negatively criticised this car as, but did you actually reveal whether or not you like it?

I think some people here are having a mental crisis with what BMW is shooting out and I'm LoL right now!

Back to more pictures please... @dalab and @SCOTT27 let those pictures come in gents!

I don't believe anyone is having a "mental crisis" of any shape or form? Opinions ofcourse differ even in the form expressions. Yes absolutely even I get it wrong, it happens.

But that doesn't indicate anything untoward in any other manner, whatsoever and to suggest that it does is completely inaccurate.

Unfailing, appears right there every time, you didn't even read my post, rejoice
Still waiting for someone to do a side by side comparison of the 5er with a properly proportioned (according to them) sedan of their own choice, so we'll find out if they actually know what the concept of "proportions" entails. We will hear many more opinions, I bet, before one of them provides any argument, analysis or evidence.

It'd say it's quite weird that you finally expressed an opinion of your own. Usually, you agree with quite contradictory posts to please everyone. I think Jerman-Car might be onto something.

I can't comment on what I think about the cars I see in a car forum? I have to agree with those who don't like something that I do? It doesn't matter, it's rhetoric.

Sure you can, but when you don't agree with others comments is when you go into your BS spill. No one cares if you agree or not, that's YOUR issue. You're right what you say doesn't matter either, it's BS rhetoric.

This is what makes me laugh you and your other clown friend. Why would I need to or try to "justify" what someone else said? You guys are adrift. I mean go back and look at what I said about the car.

This is what happens when you know you've got a botched design. You're literally trying to convince yourself by issuing a ridiculous technical challenge that any sighted person can already see is pointless. Why would anyone need to do a "proper" comparison for something that is obvious to anyone that has even marginal eyesight? It must be really though trying to convince yourself that the new 5-Series is somehow sleeker and better proportioned than the old one.

Excuse me? Where's that all coming from? I couldn't careless what you "think?" that's an opinion too?

And I've a background with people who actually suffer from mental illnesses and it's no joke whatsoever particularly to those who are unfortunately in care. In a professional environment day in day out .

The only thing weird is NOT pointing it out and worse seemingly stating "might be onto something". Really? I don't think so. I'm not licensed to state such things and nobody else here sure as hell as is. If they are I'd Love to here a diagnostic opinion based on a bunch of typed up words?

And if my agreement with "quite contradictory posts" upsets (like what? 😂) you so and it's furthermore to "please everyone" which is complete bullshit as I've always stated what I individually think, I've disagreed with many people on many things, including from my very first postings, then please feel free to press the ignore button? It's there for a reason.

Because reading all that from come nowhere for the first, very first time is complete joke and to be honest I don't give a flying F particularly on this subject But then maybe this is to "please" everyone too? LOL!🤦‍♀️

Don't you have someone else left to insult here?
Gross, go praise some Mercedes

Nope, I'm not a witless, clueless cheerleader for Mercedes like you are BMW. That would be your gig.

The reign of the unqualified opinion. It's undefeated by definition.

The delusions of a professional excuse maker and apologist. Someone please provide a technical analysis that will change what we actually see. Gotta love it.

You're annoying as a fly in Vietnam, you think labeling people this or that makes you a connoisseur, cut it off

Nah you don't know what I think, but I'm thoroughly convinced you're a joke. I mean you still haven't found the post yet? Or are you just not able to read it?

Let's go with the simple dictionary definition, bracketing the concept in automotive design :

"Proportion": a part, share, or number considered in comparative relation to a whole, from late Middle English: from Old French, from Latin proportion, from pro portione ‘in respect of (its or a person's) share’.

The new 5er: 5,060 millimetres in length, in width by 32 millimetres to 1,900 millimetres and in height by 36 millimetres to 1,515 millimetres. Its wheelbase was lengthened by 20 millimetres to 2,995 millimetres.

>> New 5er length to wheelbase ratio/proportion: 0.591
>> Old 5er length to wheelbase ratio/proportion: 0.599

The new E-class (L): 5,092 mm long (200.4 inches), 1,493 mm wide (58.8 inches), and 1,880 mm tall (74 inches), with a wheelbase of 3,094 mm (121.8 inches).

>> New E length to wheelbase ratio/proportion: 0.607
>> Old E length to wheelbase ratio/proportion: 0.595

I could do this for the other proportions of the cars. I could also provide an analysis of the cars' design from a design perspective, i.e., from different angles and by taking the visual weight, planes and volume of their different sections into account.

However, as the mathematical ratios readily show, insofar as judging by eyesight is concerned -- which is what the majority of 'opinions' on this thread are based on -- the 5er and E are virtually identical. Their mathematical difference is, in fact, in decimals. That the new 5er is basically identical in mathematical proportions to the old one (which is admired universally) is also proof that the eyesight of certain people on this forum is not trained for picking out design traits. Ergo, there goes *poof* the unqualified opinion that whatever my eyes tell me is the truth.

Yeah yeah, sure. You finally expressed your own opinion only to participate in bullying the same account/person that most users seem to pick on for fun or else. That's really telling. And I have a real problem with bullying bandwagons.

Yet at the end of all that the new 5-Series still looks like a FWD car from certain angles and looks like it's riding on stilts.

When you have to provide that much analysis as to why a car looks the way it does, you have lost the plot and none of that changes what we actually see.

There is no explanation, measurements, definitions, brackets or any other nonsense needed for various cars from BMW, Porsche, Mercedes, Aston, Ferrari, Mazda, Lexus, or any other brand that makes or has a good looking car in their lineup.

Don't nobody need no fcuking training to see how a car looks. That is a LOOSER of an argument if there ever was one.

Quick now go over to the Maserati thread and tell everyone why the Granturismo isn't a good looking car via theories, measurements, brackets and in depth analysis.

M

There he goes again. I literally put in numbers and he says "but it looks that way to me." I must be trapped in some Rupert Murdoch nightmare. Enough said.
