After a day it starts looking a bit better but I still hate the gloss black plastic along the bottom of the car and how tall it looks. I get what BMW designers tried to do but the front looks like an X car. Only with 20'/21' wheels it looks more premium.

The interior is spot on although very little leather and trim on doors is disappointing.

Thats not true the i5 costs about €70k while the cheapest Taycan is €95k

Its cheaper because its an ICE car with a battery. An EV sedan should have the proportions of a Model S/Taycan.
Trying to kill two birds with one shot they compromised both visually, a tall 5-er because of the battery and i5 with weird looking hood.

Haven't seem many complain about the black body parts like in the other thread.. yeah here you get it on the grill ,side profile and rear lol hypocrites

As controversial as the design is, the biggest story IMO is the power train changes. They are telling about what’s ahead for the new X3, 3, X6 and X5 due in the next 2 years. Expect a significant number of ICE variants to be culled. This has big implications as the BEV variants are either two of the following:
-Slower
-Heavier
-More expensive

See i5 40i vs G30 540i.

Someone noticed that the central headrest is the secondary color of the doors to hide it
Clever optical illusion to give the impression of a 2 + 2.

Interior is not that bad but exterior is truly not for me.... let's see for the M5.

@dalab and @duesy Thanks for your inputs and especially the pictures.

I think the reality is, the initial thought of most people on this forum was that this car looked rubbish. And now, after seeing more pictures and understanding the fact that this car is actually starting to grow on them (some will own up but most won't) they are going to go on and on!

Just wait and see how this car changes the way this segment rolls!

Not bad actualy..🤔🤔 Black color hides so many "wrong" design elements. M Sport trim is a must.

When I saw the first pictures I was shocked. I didn’t like the car at all. Weird proportions. Busy lines all over. The execution of the Hofmeister Knick. Everything. But the more often I look at it the more I like it. It’s unusual, it breaks away from the BMW design we were used to for the last say 20 years. But it is not boring. With the right alloy rims and the right colors it might become car we will still debate in the years to come. I personally prefer the red car. Some angles don’t do the car good particularly if the pictures were taken from a very low position. But this picture (among others) made me change my mind.

While still on the fence regarding the looks, my biggest surprise is that BMW uses the exact same battery as in the i4, although the 5er should easily be able to accommodate a physically larger battery due to its (much) longer wheelbase. This leads me to believe that there are probably versions with larger batteries in the pipeline. I guess around 100kW.

Honestly, I don't see the FW design, of course the lower trunk does not make it an E12, far from it, but it is a substantial and very noticeable change compared to all the 5 series of the last almost 40 years, they combined it with the current design and I think that brings distinction to the G60

Does anyone know whether the i5 use the same electric motors as the i7 or i4?

Does anyone know whether the i5 use the same electric motors as the i7 or i4?

Mostly they're not being particularly helpful with motor codes yet, and I don't think the i7 has started showing up on public ETK's yet, so it's difficult to know exactly what's what.

edit: just checked, the i7 is now appearing, so it's easier to see what's what, might have a look into it, though it will be too soon to see what the i5 uses.

Its sad, the 5 has always been strong , Every generation. When i saw the spy pics and saw them not opt for the rhino nose, I thought they were continuing the tradition of the solidity in terms of 5er design.

And I do believe this was the intention.

But the designers were given an impossible task. The managements decision to make the 5er ICE and EV f#cked up the design of the car. The stance was lost in this process.

Hate the EQ line as much as you want but it actually frees up MB designers to design proper looking ICE cars. It’s probably more expensive to do it that way and in the long term more of a hard transition when they go all electric.

With all that said they could still do. Better job despite the work order of a combined platform.

For eg this back seat has no excuse, and so does many other iffy features ( the lower character line, the f#cked up kink etc)

Looking at it again I feel the same way about it as I did yesterday. This could've been better but I don't think it'll be totally offensive out on the road like the 7-series.

Those who choose the new one should show their eyes to the doctor
I don't know why too many think that the g30 is better than this which was one of the ugliest bmw ever (talking about the pre facelift) and for the facelift it was ok but not that much and for those who are saying that the m5 f90 was very good looking yes they are right but it is the case with any bmw m car it will elevate the look of the normal series car and takes it to another level but here with this new gen just imagine how good looking the new bmw m5 will look because the new 5 is already a looker
