New Audi TTS Priced at €49,100 in Germany – the Most Expensive MQB Car Yet

Along with pricing for the base TT coupe models, Audi has also announced the base sticker for the sportier TTS which in its domestic German market tops off the range at €49,100.

Now that might sound like an insignificant number, but it actually means the TTS is the most expensive model built by the whole Volkswagen group on the MQB platform. For comparison, the base S3 is a full €10,000 cheaper and has practically the same engine and drivetrain. Financially burdened by its folding roof, the S3 Cabriolet comes close to the TTS with a sticker price of €48,500 in Germany.

Besides being the most expensive, the TTS is also the most powerful and the fastest car built on the MQB platform. Its 2.0 TFSI engine produces 310 PS, 10 more than the one used by the S3. Peak torque of 380 NM (280 lb-ft) is available from 1,700rpm.

Because it's also lighter, 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes only 4.7 seconds, fractionally faster than any S3 or Golf R model. Top speed remains electronically limited at 250 km/h. However, both the RS3 and TT RS will be faster, thanks to a 2.5-liter TFSI engine producing 367 PS, if not more. But neither of these models will be available until next year.

However, in becoming the ultimate Audi, the new TTS does encounter some stiff opposition. The Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG brings its 360 PS output for nearly the same money: €49,980. Besides having the better badge, it also has a regular hatchback body with five practical doors and a big boot, not to mention the extra power. BMW's excellent M235i with its 3-liter 326 PS engine can also be ordered from as little as €43,750. It's a very competitive market, but we doubt any of that will scare off the true Audi fans, who want Matrix LED headlights and the amazing 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

All-New Audi TT Goes On Sale in Germany, Starts at €35,000

Audi has just issued a statement saying the all-new TT coupe we've been waiting for since the Geneva Motor Show will go on sale tomorrow, July 10th.

Initially only available in Germany from €35,000, the third generation compact coupe will soon also be sold in other European markets.

The base price is for the models equipped with 2.0 TFSI turbo engines making 230 horsepower. A manual is standard, but the S tronic six-speed can be ordered as an option. Ironically, the 2.0 TDI with 184 PS is not the base model, as previously stated. This less powerful diesel engine is more efficient, delivering an amazing fuel consumption of just 4.2 l/100km(56.00 US mpg, equivalent to CO2 emissions of 110 g/km), but it's more expensive at €35,900.

This version of the TT can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a brisk 7.2 seconds and has a top speed of 235 km/h (146.02 mph). As for the 230 hp version of the TT, that accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in only 6 seconds when equipped with a manual or 5.3 seconds with the optional all-wheel drive and a six-speed S tronic.

To give you an idea of what to expect when the new TT makes it to your corner of the world, know that the 3-door base version of the Golf R with a manual costs €38,300 in Germany and has 300 horsepower from a 2.0 TSI turbo. A Golf GTI with the same 230 hp 2.0 turbo as the Audi, well that's only going to cost you €30,000. That's right, the TT is quite expensive, but it's also more technologically advanced.

With 500,000 sold as of last year, the TT is one of the most successful sports coupes ever made. This third generation model is an evolution of the previous two in terms of design, but is based on all-new underpinnings.

The same MQB platform that's found under the A3 family of compacts is used here. However, the TT is a lighter car than any of the Q3, not to mention smaller. At 4.18 meters (13.71 ft), the two-door is almost exactly the same length as the outgoing car. However, the its wheelbase is extended by 37mm (1.5 inches), thus improving handling. The TT Mk3 is 1,832 mm (6.01 ft) wide, and has the same height as the previous model at 1,353 mm (4.44 ft). Cargo capacity has improved marginally, gaining 13 liters.

I wish they'd put the configuration tool online. Am choosing between this and an S3.

Unfortunately this won't be coming with any of the lovely radar based assistance systems I love so much.... Quite silly since the A3/S3 has it.

It's here !

Hang on, you want to say the new TT won't offer adaptive cruise control with radar and all that stuff?!?!? It that just in the beginning of the production, or...?

It wasn't developed to have the system....
It's an option I would take, as I know how distracting that lovely virtual cockpit is going to be.

In the configurator there is active side assist and lane keeping assistant.

I'm thinking either the 3 door S3 or the TTS. The radar cruise is also really useful in traffic, or just when there is an unexpected build up of traffic. I assume it gives you a collision warning, like the Mercedes one ? Not sure, I've never used it in Audi. Just Merc.

Yes it gives you a collision warning and the radar cruise is brilliant in traffic jams. That said I feel the blind spot assistance on our Mercedes is definitely superior to the Audis system.

Don't be upset. You've stated your case, I understand it, I don't want to convince you otherwise.. but on the same token, you need to accept that there are other people who like this feature. Like Mr. Mercedes and myself.

It's probably because we're from Australia, and find it helpful while driving home from the pub. :ROFLMAO:

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
