The Mercedes-Benz W222 is the sixth generation of the Mercedes Benz S-Class. Body styles: W222 (standard), V222 (long), X222 (limousine, Mercedes-Maybach), VV222 (pullman), C127 (coupé), A217 (convertible). Predecessor: S-Class (W221). Successor: S-Class (W223). Production: 2013–2020.
About your first sentence: I know the feeling. Correct if I’m wrong, but wasn’t it a S63 you ordered?

Yes, the S63 is still on it’s way for now and I’ll be trading this in. Wasn’t intending on a getting a S550, but I couldn’t find anything else I liked. I gave the competition a chance.

I got rid of my RR before facelift depreciation kicked in and took this on trade.

Big congrats, the S coupe looks stunning, especially in black with designo red interior. I have only ride in my friends S 500 coupe and it was utterly silent, so I can only imagine how peaceful and relaxing it is driving the car daily. How is the ride comfort and general road noise with the 20'' wheels compare to the 19''? Also do you feel the S 500 coupe is sufficient for you or does it still leaves you craving for the S 63?

What surprises me is that’s there’s barely any difference in ride between the 19” and 20”. Both ride on 275 section rear tires.

I’m loving the S550’s powertrain, but I’m looking forward to the 4.0L + the new 9 speed. Although, the pragmatic me is sort of beginning to think the S550 is good enough.

My long commute home made me realize how much I missed have a S-class after a 4 year break. An automotive sensory deprivation device while in traffic.

I did the same route when I tested the G12 and I don't quite understand why BMW missed the mark when it comes to comfort (seats and ride quality). Especially considering how extensively they benchmarked the W222.

I think the multi-spokes 20' should've been standard on the C217 AMG pack, it really completes the look.

I don't care the new CGT has a fancier interior (which will be dealt with comes the new S) this is the best coupe money can buy.

FYI - My S63 coupe has been in the garage now since the end of August.. after so many break downs... followed by Merc only wanting to replace the bottom half of the engine, which the garage had difficulty doing (and which would also means it's not really 'one man one engine' anymore)

Now they've finally decided to send an entirely new engine from AMG. It's November.... I can't believe the worlds best car has been my worst car..... ever. My 1985 Mazda 626 that stunk of fuel was more reliable, no massage seats though :ROFLMAO:

If they don't offer any form of compensation I'll be fairly disappointed.
In our country, if your car is broken for more than 45 days in 1 year - you get a new car or your money back. Do you have such an option?

We have no lemon law unfortunately.... Sunday night after getting back from Australia the car lost all the fluids from the cooling system....waiting for road side service again in freezing temps isn't fun. I assume this is the end of the problems and it was a simple mistake by the mechanics to reuse the clips for the system instead of replacing with new, but I think we'll just trade the car in on the new E53 Cabrio.

I'm strongly considering the diamond turned effect for the rims
Do go for it, the diamond turn effect looks even more spectacular at night times. The matte black wheels do not do the S class justice.

I’m currently on a long road trip instead of flying. Quite relaxing for a change as opposed to the stresses of the airport. The road infrastructure of the the midwest United States is really crumbling (now I really understand “Rust Belt”), but I digress.

The S coupe is perfect for trips like these. Did you use the driving assist functions on some parts of your drive as well, if so how well does it work. Enjoy and have a safe trip.

The S-Coupe is still the best looking car in MBs line-up IMO. Lovely photos!

Thanks. I use the trusty Distronic and keep my hands on the wheel. All the autonomous hoopla of late has really left a bad taste for me.

After a few hours of driving, if the lane-keep assist alerts when not in Distronic mode, I know it's time for a break.

The best part in exterior is its rear. It is really beautiful, everything else looks better in W216. The problem of this car is the narrow windows. The doors and the profile overall look too massive/heavy because of narrow windows. W216 looks slim and classy, while this one looks like a tank.

Ymmv. Back when I had the C216, I thought looked amazing, now when I see one it looks like a boat or "fat" for lack of a better term. I feel like they cut the excess mass with the C217.

The C215, when in good condition looks trim and elegant. It's unfortunate seeing one in good condition has become a real rarity. When in distress, the older CL's look quite sad.

With the every new generation of most cars, the greenhouse becomes much narrower, I agree. Sometimes it works, and sometimes there's too much metal on the side profile and rear 3/4 (AMG GT4 *cough*).

Elegantly, generously configured, the C217s and new C257 CLS are my personal M-B "eye candy" favorites. Sako97s' C217 is configured in a manner that is simply perfect for this model.

I rant, I know...but...I am now resigned to the notion that it will be impossible for me to enjoy looking at the X290 AMG GT 4 door. It may have massive "presence", but it possesses the most ungainly rear-end ever on a 4 door "sedoupe". Yes, I find it more poorly resolved than that of the notoriously eye-challenging Porsche Panamera I.
