X3 M / X4 M [Official] The BMW X3 M (F97) and the BMW X4 M (F98)

In 2019, BMW introduced the X4 M and X4 M Competition (F98), being the first time an X4 had a M version. The X4 M is fitted with a 3.0 L S58 straight-six that produced 473 horsepower with the Competition models producing 503 horsepower. Full M models can be fitted with full M specific M Performance Parts. These include a splitter, spoiler, sport steering wheel, carbon fibre vents and kidney grilles.
The X3 M looks fantastic I must say, although perhaps a bit tame from the front.
The X4 M however......well.....hmmm....I got to say the GLC Coupe looks much better.

Maybe the colour showcased may affect your pov, if you allow me to write this. I saw the X3M and X4M 10 days ago, X3M was in black and X4M in donington grey. Of course ligthing conditions weren't the best, but the X4M in donington colour faded out the X3M standing next to it. Then again probably this would be different under sun light.

Here are some videos from Shanghai. Was looking for Scott, but he's never "around"

Live with the New BMW X4 M Coupe!

I do get around. thank you.

Anonymity grants me that pleasure so I had a great few days in China.
Visiting HQ,Research & Development and visting the production facility.

As for being around can either be upstairs in the lounge discussing industry matters and politics with my fellow shareholders, industry colleagues within the company, business analysts or media.

In the conference room hearing about market updates on the floor looking at the cars either @ BMW or elsewhere trying to find all the X7s available on the Chinese market.

Or indeed with the latest ruling that Land Rover won that identified copy cat designs is about to open the floodgates for other manufacturers with Porsche expected to move forward against Zoyte and their economy Macan.
Or enjoying a fabulous Lobster Lunch.
So yes busy.

But never virtue signalling.

For the public days they moved the Donnington Grey X3M Competition to the closed room alongside another M that will be unveiled in June @ Le Mans and brought out Phytonic Blue. Which really compliments The new X3M.

Meanwhile back home in
Aschheim.
No fabulous Lobster Lunch. But something equally just as tasty.

So I guess we crossed paths in multiple places, if that's the case. Including the conference room and R&D.

And if you're in all these places, then you likely know about June, right?

WOW!!!! This is absolutely amazing!!!! Perhaps you could start a separate thread detailing your entrie trip to Shanghai from start to finish, and not leaving out one morsel of information? I think it would be one of the most viewed threads on the site. I think it highly likely it would make the front page.

Hi Scott27,

Did they started the engine in Aschheim? Could you hear the engine sound? Are the new OPF filters reducing that much the great engine sound? In Zurich I asked if we could start the engine, but they said that the engine wasn't the definitive one... o_O blablabla strange for a car that was build on Sept. 27th 2018.

We did not get to drive the X3M and X4M Competition but you could passenger in them as they had them on the track but also the usual xDrive apparatus where you can drive up and down at a gradient. And balancing on two wheels... Slowly mind you...:D

They stressed that these were protototypes but start up was exactly like the footage we have seen. They are fast though. The car feels absolutely phenomenal.

sweet they are throwing in the M5 seats left and right. good they are the best thing in the whole interior line up of all bmw's currently made.

thank you very much for your reply Scott27. I least you could hear the engine sound and feel a little bit of the car behavior lucky you. Does it performs similar to actual M4, or is it a level higher?

I did not drive it and If being honest it felt like being in a more compact X5M. Engine performance feels more V8 than Six Cylinder.

You cannot make a good comparison of the current M4 in the sense that the X3Ms DNA as it will be evident more within the new second generation M4.
On saying that. There is definitely potential and whilst Competition looks to be the ceiling for the XMs. There will probably be further progress for the M4 variants.

The sense of urgency, departure and ability are certainly going to cause a stir. There were the opportunity to use the airfield and a slalom course. There were no signs of any outlying issues the car felt well planted for a tall vehicle.

And of course they demonstrated the usual xDrive capabilities. But I doubt the M's would be treated to such environments by its customers? A friend with me has an order for an X3M in Black and came away impressed with what he saw until....

They brought out an Marina Bay Blue X5M Competition. (Not to drive or passenger) It is far more sharper in detail than the recent photographs. It's by far the most brutal M yet after the M2. The M5 looks soft compared to it.

Again thank you very much for those inputs, very well appreciated.

So engine performance will feel more like the M5, a that push forward without end of torque? I was quite impressed by the M5 during the M Town event in Zurich 2 weeks ago. it feels like the car had never a loss of torque, M4 was different. But here again we were not making the same training. M5 for strong straight accelerations and hard braking, turns long enought to put the car in slide, M4 was for slaloms.

Xdrive capabilities is important too. It is very pratical if you can escape traffic jams with a bit of Offroad. M3/M4 doesn't offer you this opportunity. :ROFLMAO: that was we call adventure, until you get caught be the police, this is what you call Problems...

Did the new Lamborghini Urus affected a sharper and more brutal design of the upcoming X5M and X6M?

I wonder why the X3 M is so much heavier than the X3 M40i.

It's 400 lbs heavier than a Macan Turbo

It's also 150 lbs heavier than the GLC63 and that has a V8 engine.

It's a miracle if there is any AMG that is lighter than M car. X3 M should be heavier than Stelvio QV but lighter than GLC63.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
