X3 M / X4 M [Official] The BMW X3 M (F97) and the BMW X4 M (F98)

In 2019, BMW introduced the X4 M and X4 M Competition (F98), being the first time an X4 had a M version. The X4 M is fitted with a 3.0 L S58 straight-six that produced 473 horsepower with the Competition models producing 503 horsepower. Full M models can be fitted with full M specific M Performance Parts. These include a splitter, spoiler, sport steering wheel, carbon fibre vents and kidney grilles.
@ BMWBlog, you stated previously to one of my concern that the car was making burbbles as well. Which Specs did you test drove, US or EU one? as it seems EU won't get AGAIN the same level of sound.
I believe all the cars they test drove were US spec I stand to be corrected though. EU specs will definitely not sound as good .... although for some odd reason the M850i still sounds really good with an OPF.

Yes I confirm that the M850i makes very nice burbbles, I was invited to test drove it 3 weeks ago. This thursday afternoon I will test drive the X4Mc during 2 hours. Let's wait and see

Let's go directly to the point which hurts.... NO NO NO and AGAIN NO the X4M Competition EURO standard doesn't pops and burbbles ! Video actually online shows the nice sound of the US version. Sorry to kill your dreams (mine died last thursday), the nice pops and burbbles are not there. Maybe the car was too new (only 200 km), but still that was the only negative part on my 1 hours test drive. I will definitely miss the exaust sound of my F26 M40i. Exaust's notes on the side, everything else in the new X4Mc is just incredible. the car is a little more firm than mine, but the seat are so much more confortable. And the ventilated seats system (which is a new system that doesn't blow air anymore) very efficient. The Engine is a magic box, which make the X4 feel half of is weight. And I m still a big fan of the ID6 and M5 clusters display. The car is great marvellous, and I can't wait to get mine. The only down side are the pops and burbbles, but probably I can get used to it. Well the engine power make you forget everything else. :D

If you want more sound, you can turn up the volume of the enhanced engine sound. This can be done through coding.

On my M2 there was a hidden feature (not sure if it's on the M2CP) that the engineers had installed. Turn the traction control off and the pops are louder. Definitely no mistaking it. Maybe they've done it for the X3 and X4 M?

Hi Centurion, but your advice will only affect the sound volume inside the car? it doesn't affect the volume of the sound coming out of the exaust pipes, or I m wrong?! And coding won't enable pops and burbbles, no?

Hi Betty Swollocks, as i have almost the same engine as you with 20 Hp less and 50 Nm less too, I will check that tonight when I drive home. thanks for the tips. :D

Still I don't get the point of BMW. The EU Z4 M40i makes pops and burbbles, the M850i, the M5, the new M8 does it too. Why not the EU X3/X4M ? Most of EU clients where disappointed by the sounds of the G01/02 M40i. I don't get why they made this mistake again! They see the X3M as the bestseller of the M branch, i wonder how many clients will go to other brands. And it means the next EU M3/M4 will have the same sound too.

Hi Scott27? Did you took this picture in Dielsdorf? because it really looks like it! How can you get a delivery before the official european launch September 6th?

X3M or X4M?
X4Mc sophisto grey & tartufo, my actual m40i and previous 35i X4 had/has the same colour combo. Ok inside it is was not tartufo but nice warm brown.

The vessel will reach bremerhaven on 12th or 16th of July. Dependending on which vessel the car is. I hope the launch date of September 7th was just a joke. I can t wait. Even if I will really miss the exhaust sound of the F26 m40i. I remember that you wrote once when the m40i was unveiled, that it has such of a beautiful sound. After 150'000km I just confirm you. yes a very very beautiful sound that made my face smile every day since 3 years. :D

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
