X3 M / X4 M [Official] The BMW X3 M (F97) and the BMW X4 M (F98)

In 2019, BMW introduced the X4 M and X4 M Competition (F98), being the first time an X4 had a M version. The X4 M is fitted with a 3.0 L S58 straight-six that produced 473 horsepower with the Competition models producing 503 horsepower. Full M models can be fitted with full M specific M Performance Parts. These include a splitter, spoiler, sport steering wheel, carbon fibre vents and kidney grilles.
Since 26 hours I'm the very happy owner of this... :):)

Congrats man , this car looks sooo
much better in person. Pictures don’t do it justice.

Congrats! What was your previous car?

Tank you, F26 X4 M40i - 3 years 162'000km

Thanks yes I confirm the car looks a lot better in person. But because of the roof shape in the back, j found the F26 more muscular and agressive from the side view. For the tech, for the engine, for the comfort this one is much better than the F26. There is only one point where the F97/F98 euro spec don t reach the level of the F26 M40i, the exhaust sound.

The biggest surprise is fuel consumption. All pictures I found from dealer car where showing 480km at full tank. I m still on 1st tank filled by dealer, I did 580km and still can drive 75km. Highway drive with z bit of traffic jam, an country roads. 80% sport mode on engine, and manual gear.

IND F97 X3M Competition Baseline Dyno - Stock

The all-new F97 X3M is the welcomed newcomer amongst BMW’s M garage, not only as the upper crust of the X3 lineup, but certainly because of what’s under the hood—the S58 engine. Rated at 473 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque in the new X3 M and X4 M, and at 503 horses in the Competition versions, it’s the most powerful six-cylinder gasoline engine BMW has built to date.

A double treat, then, to be able to see what the X3M can do despite BMW’s traditionally modest claims, but also, for all intents and purposes, a sneak preview for the upcoming M3 and M4’s potential.

We arrived at AMS Performance on a hot and humid day, the 89 Octane delivery fuel still sloshing around in the tank and a mere 114 miles on the odometer. It would seem, then, that the odds were stacked against us to make any sort of newsworthy claims. Nevertheless, anticipation was high—the AMS crew brought the S58 to life, crept our X3M onto the rollers, and safely strapped it down. It sat there poised and eager to perform as we gave its athletic proportions one last approving nod.

The fans switched on as the wheels began to spin on the rollers. Gear shifts through first, second, and third came and went without any theater. But when fourth arrived, the revs climbed with urgency to redline, the rollers screamed to keep up with the X3M’s torque demands. Sport Plus gave us an aural treat when the X3M came off throttle, a slew of satisfying burbles filled the air as the X3M settled back down to rest.

And then we saw it: 491 horses and 446 pound-feet of torque at the wheels on measly 89 Octane. At roughly ten percent drivetrain loss, you can do the math (and in case you can’t, we’ve broken it down below).

We decided it’d be an opportune time to also verify BMW’s curb weight claims before making our way back to IND, so onto a set of scales it went. 4510 lbs was the net result with just under half a tank and the Competition’s 21” wheel / tire combo. Weight distribution was pure BMW at nearly 50/50.

Despite the conditions, we were absolutely thrilled by the baseline results and are eagerly looking forward to developing our new X3M project over the upcoming months. Stay tuned for more!

BMW X3MC (10% Drivetrain Loss): 452.7 hp, 397.8 tq
IND X3MC (10% Drivetrain Loss): 491.7 hp, 446.1 tq
BMW X3MC (Crank): 503hp, 442 tq
IND X3MC (Crank): 542hp, 490.3 tq

BMW X3M40i Curb Weight: 4,317 lbs
BMW X3MC Curb Weight: 4,620 lbs
IND X3MC Curb Weight: 4,510 lbs (half tank)

I don’t know why carwow continues to do rolling races in comfort mode.

Because it makes sense for what they're trying to replicate. That is, cruising along and then suddenly wanting to accelerate hard for whatever reason. If you are driving with all the settings set to "max" or "sport", then why would you be cruising along? It's not a realistic scenario to have your car set up in maxiumum attack mode and then your measure of performance is from a rolling start.

I see their point.

Guess these are the the times recorded on Carwow? ....so far it really looks like the X3/4M will be rockets, I can only imagine what the M3/4 will be like.

Not all carwow videos are relevant, like Tesla Model S have better braking distance than M5, lol

Yes. If this is what they want to show ...
Tbh - I'm also not convinced of this test/setup. Rolling races to me offer two main advantages: Rule out grip differences coming from different starting spots of the contenders and make AWD vs non AWD somewhat comparable.
For me - drag races from stand still are irrelevant. I'm not 18 any more, where I did traffic light races ... and now being much wiser :p ... I feel with the drivetrain of my cars. There is no bigger torture for it than a drag race from standstill.
So for me (german autobahn afficiando) the real test is 60/80 to 250.
This is: Accelerating after restricted construction site area, when speed limit is removed again. There my car - depending who is on my back :D - is indeed in full attack mode. And those are the typical cases I have a true head to head then.

Nice to see the first X4 M competition drag race, and against the Porsche Cayenne coupe turbo (also the first time I see it running)

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
